First colonoscopy - Very scared

Thanks for the vote of confidence Marsky! Put your comments on a christmas wish list, you never know! As for the colon screening, keep championing the cause! Peter PS. I work in the UK and occassionally do colonoscopies on a Saturday! Actually, I'm currently setting up my own website too so life's pretty busy at the moment. Came across this website so I thought I would try the forum to get in some practice! Post Edited...

Fiber isn't helpful to me either. In fact, simple white rice, bananas, plain white bread (your local bakery might be a good place to start, just their basic white bread), plain english muffins (I prefer Bay's found in the chilled section of your grocery, near yogurt and cream cheese), plain yogurt (vanilla or plain is best, skip fruit), small applesauce cups, instant mashed potatoes (instead from scratch), club crackers (my favorite...

Colonoscopy and Endoscopy Results
Published (2009-11-25 20:17:00)
Well, I just heard back from the doctor regarding my first colonoscopy and endoscopy. Turns out other than light reflux and very minor diverticulousou, there is nothing that he could find that would be causing my cramping, constipation, gas and sometime diharrea. As I am cramping now that is very frustrating, but good at the same time. He along with my gyno thinks that I could have endomitriosis. I know I have a B12 deficiency which can cause...

Thanks Peter. Always gluten free as I get ridiculously sick if I don't. I am pretty sure that the years of undiagnosed Celiac wore out the gallbladder too. I had almost forgotten just how fun the bile d was . I am doing what I can to aboid the binders if possible but if it helps and I can't work it out on my own then better that than being tied to the toilet

Hi Scared, read your post. Glad your colonoscopy went well.  I see you mentioned you have diverticulosis in your sigmoid colon. I recently had colon resection surgery due to complicated diverticulitis with an abcess and a perforated colon. They removed my entire sigmoid colon. I am mentioning this because the diverticulosis means you have the possibility to form diverticulitis pockets where food can get trapped and cause infection....

This may not be your stomach but noises made by your colon. I used to think it was my stomach too but in reality I learned it's sometimes a noisy gut (GI tract). When my colon is noisy and very active I sometimes have the good bacteria levels off. Eating a yogurt cup or two a day is an easy fix. Stonyfield yogurt is high in acidopholis. If you can't tolerate dairy as I can't, you can take a ...

Once and only once did I consume several tall glasses of dark micro beer (keg beer to boot) at a Halloween party, several years ago. It cleaned me out better than Fleet's Phospho Soda does (thankfully it didn't have this affect on me until the early morning hours)! So I avoid dark beer like the plague - yikes, it's much too rich for my touchy gut. But I am able to enjoy 1 or 2 bottles ...

Walking up and down steps. Over and over again. This is how I release pent up gas in the GI tract. Of course I do not struggle with C but have at times used enemas. To get out of messy, putty like stool stages that can go on and on, too long in fact. Then these enemas give me a really good span of time with more normal, formed stool. But it's been a while since I've given myself enemas. I also...

Hi, Red2009, I suffer from IBS, depression, and anxiety. I didn't start taking an antidepressant until about four or five years after I was diagnosed with IBS. Taking the antidepressant has helped me tremendously in terms of my IBS. It truly can be a vicious cycle, but having your anxiety under control can really help with the IBS. The antidepressant isn't the only thing I rely...

Hi, jeanneac, I also have IBS and suffer from depression and anxiety. They often seem to go hand in hand, don't they? I have been taking antidepressants for about 9 years; (have had IBS for about 15). I feel that the antidepressants do help my IBS in the long run because they help me with my anxiety. Anxiety can wreak havoc on the digestive system anyway; how much worse for those of ...

Sorry to hear you are unwell, you shouldn't be back at work yet! The diarrhea is common and usually settles down. Make sure you have a low fat diet and also you could try Cholestyramine. This binds bile salts which are in excess at the moment. Its not very palatable, but if it helps what the hell! You can also consider Methycellulose which draws water into itself and bulks up the stool (hebile ...

I'm not a doctor, so I don't know much about IgG and IgA. But, from what I've read, those could be characteristics of someone having CD, or celiac disease(high levels if IgG). I would stop eating any processed foods, such as the peanut butter crackers (wheat and yeast in those which may not be helping you) and try to stick with foods that your body needs to heal...whole, natural foods that ...

I am not Canadian but in the US they use at least double the sedation for a colonoscopy. Just make sure they know that you want to have no pain. They use 2 different things here. I don't think they use Versed where I go as I noticed a different name last time. If for some reason you feel something at least you will be able to tell them and they can increase the flow of the sedation. I have...

Sounds like you probably have Chronic idiopathic constipation which is more common in women. Very difficult to treat, but I'm sure your doctor will help with this including diets, drugs, lifestyle changes bowel retraining and very occasionally surgery.

Caffeine is a drug and people have intolerences for a whole host of different reasons. It maybe in the way your body handles caffeine, an increased sensitivity to it, maybe a reduced removal or excretion of it. Regardless of cause, the only way to deal with it is avoidance sadly, but there are plenty of caffeine-free products on the market. As to the appendix, I don't think this was the cause ...
