New here, and new to fibro

Hi Zep and welcome to the family. It is natural to grieve when first dx'd with fibro, it is a life changing dx. People with fibro have a low serontonin level is why your doc recommended you go back on anti-depressants.   Read the fibro 101 thread, second thread, it contains lots of great helpful info.   I was on amitriptyline when I was dx with fibro for anxiety which is an anti-depressant but it also helps with...

Published (2009-12-04 20:00:00)
Hi Zep24 and welcome to our fibro family! If you haven't already, do check out fibro !01. It is the top of the page 1 and has a lot of good information for the fibromite. Exercise is so important. It helps relieve stress, build muscle and helps keep you becoming more stiff and achy. I enjoy walking, working out with resistance bands and small hand weights. The trick is to start out slowly and pace yourself. Overdoing could lead to a...

Dagger, I have an ostomy and when things aren't going smoothly, grape juice really helps me.  I get Welches concentrated grape juice and prepare it.  I'm sure your granddaughter would like that and it could help her.  Things like rice and bananas are very constipating.   If she doesn't improve, she should be seen by someone.  I had that problem as a small child.  When I had...

I had this in one hip when I first got fibro. I had a cortizone shot and it worked. I haven't had trouble since. Hope you get some relief. I remember it hurting so much.

thanks for the replies and giggles (Sue, I actually did LOL, and dh looked up and asked what was so funny ;) ) ~Michael, dh and I are actually in the market for a new heater, so thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into those. ~Patsie, I have a really hard time with foot pain right now too, hence the double socks. We have ceramic floors, and when I felt the cold through my slippers, it made my feet ache something fierce. Those socks...

"I reckon they'll start aiming properly pretty quickly if they're responsible for cleaning their own messes." Now, I thought that too...but no such luck...I've got dear hubby and two teenaged sons and let us not forget their wonderful friends...so when I haven't been able to clean as much these past couple of years (side note: I think we should add another symptom to fibro - woman whom normally have a...

Oh Mrs. T.  You see, fibromites have a distorted sense of perception and often times mistake an orange for a soccer ball and vice versa.  Our eyeballs sometimes roll around in their sockets giving us the illusion that things are in motion when they really are not.  It's really quite common to think a regular house cat is a mountain lion...or bobcat, as the case may be.  You are not an idiot,...

Koffee Klatch for Friday~
Published (2009-12-03 23:00:00)
We made it to the weekend again and I hope everyone is able to get in some relaxing and peaceful time. With the Christmas holiday season coming up we all seem to get busier and busier. So one thing we do need to do is take great care of ourselves. So, if you are going to pamper yourself so you can survive this busy time of year, what will you do? Take a short nap each day? Maybe a hot shower after the kids are in bed. No kids so life must be...

how do you get warm?
Published (2009-12-03 16:20:00)
Mamanan - I love the north, but sometimes I just feel cold. My solution is a good heating blanket, which I use only to pre-heat the bed, and my little tiny hot tub. The hot tub is one of the little triangle ones for 2 people and it fits in a small space in my bathroom. I'm not one of those people who like to go out in the snow and freeze their hair off. I don't even have a huge bathroom, and it fits in a corner. Once I get my body...

Hello mamanan...I hang around on the CP forum, and just happened to see your post about staying warm. My wife and I just got one of those infared heaters, and love it. It is supposed to cut your heating bill by about 35 to 50 percent. It's one like the EdenPure that Paul Harvey talks about on the radio nation wide. Ours is a comfortzone...and it's wonderful! I know this can be a painful problem for the child as well as the parents. My grand-niece has been though this and she's 3 1/2. Anyway, her pediatrician put her on Miralax, an over the counter medicine for constipation. Besides drinking enough water, remember that carrots and corn also help a LOT with that (in adults to). And of course you're sure there are no obstructions? This is where a ...

I always make for hubby the peanut butter cookies with a chocolate kiss in the center. I sprinkle colored sugar on them to make them festive. Once when we were super broke - I made him a batch and put them in a box under the Christmas tree. He still says it was one of his favorite gifts....ever.

You didn't put a subject in the subject line so thought I would do it for you after reading your post. If we are going to gripe about bathrooms why do boys and men have to stand to urinate, besides the fact that they can??? If it had been up to me my sons would have never been allowed to stand and urinate. To me it is disgusting cause we all know they can't hit the stool. ...

Robin, When I asked my doc about this, he said I could go to a neurologist, get all kinds of tests and maybe even find out what part of my brain was misfiring, etc. But as of now there is no way to fix this problem, so I should just try to get along with it, figure out ways that I could cope by going around the brain fog. Does this make sense to you? Diane

My favorite movie this time of year is Miracle on 34th Street. I loved Natalie Wood, as a small child, in it. It brings back a lot of memories of my childhood Christmases that were wonderful. A BMW for Christmas? I wouldn't need to take it back because the bank would reposses it! Sherrine

We camped out in front of Best Buy. We got there just before 1:00 PM on Wednesday, yes, Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. We spent Thanksgiving in our tent catching up with the regulars that we haven's seen since last Black Friday. The doors opened at 5:00 this morning and we were home with our goodies by 5:30. Living with multiple illnesses has been a journey for me. At times I do feel completely overwhelmed. I did go through a grieving process, mourning the loss of my good health. Hi sore and welcome to the Family!! You do have the right attitude in my opinion...you need to learn as much as you can with fibromyalgia since it's sort of a 'self help' disorder. You are the one who will be taking care of the symptoms with your doctor's guidance. But it's not as easy as most since research hasn't totally figured out what causes fibro so there's no single medication to treat...
