i mean really, really old. maybe someone can place the movie. i've got no clue. it starts out with a far camera angle, but cuts in close @ about 1:20, so hold out. insane solo, matched grip, no lie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-c-8S3vPmo&NR=1

You'd want a medium ride with a loose tension. Agop, Bosphorous, maybe a Dream Energy ride. A complex, hand hammered cymbal that's thick, will play thinner.

I own them. The rings are the draw back. I believe they tear just from the vibration. They work well though w/ the EMAD batter or a SKII.

sad thread , I want to someday find a good deal on one of those Alesis (sp?) black multi-pad-thingies , seems like they'd be fun....specially if you could record live and dump sections to it....?

i love aquarian heads. i don't play them anymore because it seems like NO ONE stocks them in any sort of decent capacity. so if i have a show or session like ... tomorrow ... and one gives out and gets pitted or whatever, i can't replace it without ordering it. so i switched to evans because they're just more readily available. and i'm OCD about all my shit matching. that said, i always liked...

That's awesome that your son is so into his playing. I've got a student like that who is about your son's age, and it's exciting to see them having so much fun with it. Question: are you going to want to play at the same time as your son and teach him? You may want to consider the Ludwig Epic modular 7pc setup. It can be setup as a full single bass kit, a double bass kit, or two smaller...

I like just using just overheads in a small room (not overhead) Nothing close miced. Let em breath Use small diaphragm condensers on a stereo adapter on a stand about 6 feet in front of the kit. Pan one left pan the other right, send them to a return, add eq, comp, and others.. That's a nice roomy tone, don't forget to add air room when recording guitars too or they will sound too sterile...

I use an A Custom 22" ping ride for rock, blues, punk, ska and whatnot. I use a 20" A Zildjian & C.i.e. for jazz and acoustic gigs. I can't say enough good things about both of these cymbals. I don't think I'll ever need another ride (doesn't mean I won't get other rides, though... ).

I say the first person to put up an album cover with puppets on it (Metallica's Master of Puppets doesn't count, and neither do any of the albums featuring the Muppets) should win a prize.

a music stand and a book of cheat sheets is fine if you're playing 3 sets a night from a repertoire of a hundred or so songs. I do pick up shows like that with a couple guys here and there- we never rehearse either. if you're playing 30 or fewer tunes a night at some point you should know the material well enough to play off book.
