Don't club owners do research about who they hire anymore? Used to be, you had to have a good rep and references to play a weekend gig at a club, and if you had none, you played on a weeknight so they could check you out. I'm not defending suck bands, but if a club hires one, that's their fault. One other thing: I've been blamed for clubs having a bad weekend and chasing the crowds away when in reality, it was the...

Agreed with both points. We played a new place on friday last weekend. Hasnt had bands for almost a year (had some license issues and sound complaints etc). We were the first band back in. Its also usually an "on the way" kind of place. There's a 1am lockout here (which means be in by 1am or you arent allowed in - places shut at 3am) and ppl tend to use this place as their second stop pub for the night - then leave...

What about the fact that you can play a song and enjoy PLAYING it, but you wouldn't ever LISTEN to it? There are many forms of art...Art for art's sake, commercial art. Sometimes music can be a Picasso, and sometimes it's an Absolut Vodka ad, and sometimes it is a billboard for Bob's Big Boy. And there is heroism inherent in all aspects of art. Funny, how I learned more about myself and my art playing music I wouldn't...

i invested over two years in a band that allowed the drummers wife to be in the band. mind you, the drummer and his wife ran a successful business....so they weren't stupid people, just inseparable.
but while good in business, she wasn't a musician....she was awful....and her lyrics were awful. and after about a year and a half at working at being the sound and recording engineer, she decided ...

Good song
Hot lead singer that can sing very well
Rocking band
What's not to like?
The video itself...for the most part, pretty cool. Slightly cheesy in spots, but sometimes those make for the best videos anyway.
If it were on a music program on TV, I'd probably watch it all the way through without changing the channel.

played at a little dive bar. Decent enough place...I mean their all dives right?
Anyway...they had a little PA but no one to run sound. So the cook comes out and messes with a few knobs and off we go.
It was HORRIBLE! We were completely unfamiliar with the equipment they had and didn't have a clue as to how to fix it.
So the show must go on. We played. Everyone thought we sucked...

Let him practice with you and keep an open mind. If he gets to the point that his playing is a good addition, start using his playing on gigs.
I play in a two-guitar band, and it can add a lot when done right.

Most places around here, you HAVE to bring the PA, so it's not factored in.
Most regular ( small-medium) bars pay $250-$400 for a 4-hour (with breaks) gig.
It sucks.

Keep it as simple as you can. I used to do the backing tracks thing. We just put everything onto an MP3 player and used that. If you take the time to mix your tracks, there's no reason the bass should be too loud or too soft.
I don't know what you mean about keeping your tracks "raw" vs through the PA. What else would you run them through? I've found the easiest thing is to just run ...

I really like the Line6 M13. The other units you mentioned are actually modeling preamps and are much more than just effects. Do you already have an amp that you like the basic tone of and just want to add some effects?

Don't see what the issue is. It's a game, and people have fun.
Kinda like race car drivers complaining about driving games and football players complaining about Madden.

EXTREMELY important. I would wager that it's better to be a good entertainer/frontman than it is to be a great awesome fantastic singer.
We get comments all the time about our singer not looking like he's into it and not really moving around and commanding attention.
This is all in my experience. Obviously YMMV.

Don't worry about it. For a band to grow and move ahead, it needs to cut off all the deadwood, so that it becomes a well oiled machine. There are always going to be casualties as a band continues to improve, it might not be fair to the ones that get kicked out, but if they were pulling their weight, and continuing to improve their abilities as the band grew, they would still be there.

Different music elicits different responses. The key, IMO, is to attract and entertain the crowd. If people are coming to see you and leave happy they came, than the night was a success.
