Have you been able to try this yourself? I downgraded from 9.0.2 to 8.1 and still had error 1600. Maybe I missed an important step while downgrading iTunes.

Thanks for your input! After many retries, I just created a bare ipsw, loaded as you suggested, and started one at a time add-ons from Cydia, and finally got WB not to crash! Thanks for inspiring the idea, and fix!

Hong Kong, sells factory unlocked iPhones direct from Apple, they cost a lot $US900 or so depending on which model you buy. You want to be 100% sure that the iPhone is factory unlocked when you buy it as o2 will not unlock it for you when you get to the UK. O2 will only unlock iPhones they sell.
