you could always stick your finger in the fan.. dont stop it completely but just touch the fan blades.. usually you can feel what direction they are going.. but generally most fans when set to exhaust out the case you will see the support bars/back of the fan motor.. so use that as a reference..

Need thoughts on these voltages
Published (2009-11-22 00:51:00)
The FSB voltage is more of a worry to me than the NB, 45nm chips are very picky about FSB voltage and can be fried by it.

Interpretation of Intel's datasheets gives a maximum voltage of 1.5V. Nehalem CPUs have a higher limit than 45nm Core 2 chips, which can safely go up to 1.4V. With that said, I wouldn't go too far over 1.4V anyway since at that level you'll be producing a significant amount of heat.

Compare it to the box the CPU came in, Vid should be on the side. For reasons unknown the programmers of the mentioned programs, one of them anyway, either got it wrong or mislabeled actual Vcore with Vid. Also do to "nothing being perfect" the CPU might not be getting exactly what it requested via Vid and depending how the program works it might be reporting the actual voltage. Both programs should be very close and if you...

Hey doz, i stress tested overnight at 3.6 (1.2000v vCore, min QPI, and stock IOH i think) and it passed. I recorded 1.200v in BIOS, and 1.125v in CPUZ with 100% slope. I recorded 1.200v in BIOS, and 1.148v in CPUZ with 50% slope. Seems i've got 0.075v Vdroop? Am i reading this correctly? Like i said though, it was 100% stable running prime95 overnight, and I was happy with the max temp of 75 celcius. So... how to proceed? this is...

Huh, that's a shame. The Computronix guide on Tom's is gone, or at least the link he posted is no longer active. However, someone on Overclock.net has created a similar thread, referencing Comp's original guide. If my intention was to pursue a massive OC, I'd probably think about calibrating and keep tabs on "the distance to TJMax", but as my plans are relatively tame, I doubt I'll bother. Thanks for...

Nice revision, but I will keep my original TRUE - I am really impressed that TRUE is still the best cooler even after almost 2.5 years (I have it since May 2007)

Ive had older 80mm fans do that for years and still work fine. Its a possibility that it could die, but its not guaranteed. With as cheap as fans are, Id pickup a new fan and replace it if you are worried about it. Alot of PSUs wont even wince without a fan if you have good case cooling though.

Your best bet is to close it here and open it in general hardware- thats where we do the builds

I certainly would not exceed 1.45v. Even 1.4v is a too much for my taste. Additionally, I doubt you will notice much of a real-world difference between 4GHz and 4.2GHz, or even 3.8GHz and 4.0GHz for that matter. Therefore, I would settle on the lowest reasonable voltage.
1.35v for 4.0GHz is fine, but 1.31v for 3.8GHz also is good. I would personally want to keep the voltage below 1.35v if ...

that is odd. You might want to try reseating the sink, but I doubt its a big deal. If those are temps at full load, you're completely safe.
on the q6600 in my system, core 3 & 4 are almost always the same temp while core 1 and 2 are usually within 1-2 degrees of one another. Is that normal? I have no idea

I pulled the trigger today. I got Microcenter to price match it. I exchanged a TRUE Rev C for it because I didn't want my case to be so crowded (air flow is already tenuous). Hopefully it won't be a mistake.

I've been doing some research in the last week looking for the same thing. You might want to consider the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus. Here's a review on FrostyTech. The chart on page 5 shows just how it stacks up against others, and the price is quite reasonable. I hope some others post their opinions here as I could use the information myself.

set the memory speed & voltage manually in bios. you will need to lower memory ratio to stay under your memory capability of DDR2 800. For over clocking you need better memory speed like 1066.

Are you using auto vcore voltage? At 3.6ghz i was running 1.18 vcore set in bios manually with qpi at 1.2125, ive now upped my bclk to 183x21 (turbo enabled) vcore at 1.2750, qpi at 1.300, memory voltage at 1.64. Id suggest using manual voltages particularly for qpi and vcore, this way you can se them a bit lower which will help with temps. Btw, 1.35 qpi is the max reccomended.

It cools OK but the mounting process sucks ass. No particular reason to be aiming for that one unless there STILL aren't any other value- range i5 coolers out, which I find highly unlikely.
