This used to be the case for mobile GPUs too. But now we have this amazing page , for which I personally am very thankful. Maybe there will be something similar for mobile CPUs someday. :/

screen on the envy 13 is superior to the mbp What cpu is it configured with? If it is on par for price, take it over the mbp, that is what the envys should be selling at. EDIT oh wait it is you, you already have the dm3 now.

The better features over my M1330? Backlighted Keyboard (AWESOME!) WirelessN (Have no need for it but it's an upgrade) Leather accents (I have no idea what that means but it sounds cool) On my list that they need to change/supply: LED Display (Draws less power and weighs less, also brighter) Remote Control (I never use it but what the heck, I had one on my M1330) Also missing a fingerprint reader but I've never onced use it- really...

the %'s dont really translate to much, seeing as how the CPU operates on very specific multipliers. at least, i've never figured it out, and it doesnt seem to change much to play with that setting.

Mixed experiences... they always send refurbs, though.
Couple years ago they replaced my 14" Inspiron with a 15.4" Vostro... even though they still offered 14" Inspirons. I called to complain about the size, and they wouldn't do anything for me. I never really followed up again, but probably could have insisted on the same screen size if I kept pushing (from what I Googled at the time). Specs...

The 1201N seems like a nice portable at $499, really nice netbook, ill probably would go for that. But also consider CULV laptops, since it will give you good portability with great battery life, with better CPU than atom, but a little more expensive. For example ASUS UL20A-A1 $581 ($75 gift), probably use the gift card to upgrade it to 4gb ram. Another option is Acer Aspire Timeline ...

I have the G50vt-x1 and i love it! I want to upgrade to 8gb too, but its like 400 dollars or something for the ram! But, honestly i have no need for it, since i have yet to bring it to its knees, I was playing Batman in 720p, Firefox with 20 tabs+ and playing a HD vid from youtube , songbird, Guild wars and TF2, Photoshop and added tons of filters to a 15mp .raw image, and was still able to do ...

I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but you're trying to put a
desktop CPU into a notebook socket? How is this possible? The 5050e is AM2,
while the laptop you're trying to upgrade is a S1 socket? Both have
different amount of pins so it wouldn't fit physically not
electronically...

I just got a credit card today, actually, and I could run down to a local OfficeMax and grab one of these through Saturday (or order online). Can someone post some benchmarks, obviously that's an important thing at this point. Like crunch a DVD with DVDShrink and time the whole operation from start to finish with just the defaults for everything - put in the DVD, back it up, stop the timer, etc....

lenovo uses horrible panels.
your best bet is to just get face time with what you're after, and check the viewing angles.

When I bought my MBP, most of these models weren't out, and it was between the dell xps studio 13 and mbp. The touchpad on the Dell drove me crazy. It was super tiny and had an awkward touch. Bestbuy sold the model, and you might be able to test drive it there.

Never seen this either.. but my only thought is maybe it's toshiba's system or hard drive recovery is within bios and locks the drive? did you delete the protected recovery partition.. if there was one.. that could be part of the problem.. are you installing on the proper partition? Lastly check bios and also and other function key prompts at post ... I've seen F2 or F6 usually for recovery.
