Heres a new twist on an old scam, ATMs for sale on Craigslist are being bought and used by crooks in a variety of ways ( none of them good ). Quote: A data security expert in Boston demonstrated this vulnerability. After searching Craigslist for a seller, he found a bar owner looking to liquidate assets. He paid $750 for the ATM, and after a hacker friend looked over the accompanying manual, he was able to get 1,000 account numbers to print...

Here's the thing that upsets me about these sort of deals.
My data has value. The shows I watch, times, dates, etc. Yet my data is being sold without any sort of reimbursement.
GOOGLE uses the data to sell more targeted ads and so on and so forth. The worst part is that it happen everywhere.
Next up GOOGLE will partner with CC companies for more complete data on spending habits....

I avoid the private ATM's like the ones found in bars, night clubs, gas stations, malls, etc. I don't even trust the ATM's that are branded (but not physically located) by my bank. I've used one in an airport but watched my bank account closely for 4 months afterward.
I've had my card number stolen twice in the past 5 years though. So the only defense is common sense and a watchful eye ...
