Ok since you're in California, buy as many parts as possible from Amazon.com since they do not charge us CA residents tax like Newegg does. For the usage scenario you're describing, the Core i5 750 would be a good choice. In your particular situation, the Core i7 860 would be a good CPU to buy if buying from Amazon.com and within budget. Mobo wise, this mobo would be a good choice for your needs: $105 - Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel...

The Core i7 920 bloomfield cpus has a triple channel DDR3 controller. The Core i7 860 cpu has a dual channel DDR3 controller. They both have similar features in that they both are 45nm technology with 8MB of shared L3 cache memory and both support HT. But, because the Core i7 860 has a dual channel memory controller vs triple channel on the Core i7 920, this would lower the cost of the system because you can just use 4GB (2x2GB) of DDR3 vs...

The 1156 socket uses dual channel memory, hense the 4gb. For more ram you would need two sets. EVGA /920 combo $484 ($464AR) http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.290383

If you don't use more than 100GB of storage, then you could go with a RAID 0 array using two 80GB SSDs. But you need to have some sort of back-up "solution," regardless of whether it's internal or external. It seems like you're currently using a 2TB HDD for storage... I recommend keeping that instead of using an external HDD for backing up the RAID 0 setup.

that's an impressive list buddy, although I question the choice of Seagate, Western Digital is a better choice, generally. Also, if you're a student or you have a valid college email address, you can probably get windows 7 for free through your school's IT program, or for $30 through the MSDNAA program, so you'd save yourself $70 right there as well. It's worth looking into. I ...

Hi, Just wondered if anyone might have an idea what might cause this....I had a Steelseries QCK cloth mousepad that I love for quite a while, then recently I started noticing my mouse pointer was not being accurate, it was "bouncing around" rather than tracking smooth. Thought the pad might just be worn out so I got a new one and it did the same thing. However if i use it on my desk (...

How badly do you want a new monitor? It is possible to include one -- plus an OEM copy of Windows 7 Professional -- within your (max) $1200 budget, but you may have to settle for an AMD Phenom II X4 build, which takes third place in the performance race behind Intel's Core i7/X58 and Core i5/P55, respectively.

Should mention, Vista SP 2, everything updated through today. Couldn't find a hotfix. In fact, there IS a hotfix that seems to apply to this (or a similar) problem but it only applies to SP1 and my system wouldn't let me install it saying it didn't apply to my OS. Thought I might have gotten somewhere.

Welcome to the forum! Ok in order to help you out, we need to know what parts are available in your country. To that end, are there any online computer hardware stores available to your country? If so, please link them. You're right about the RAM and CPUs being different from consumer grade hardware. And that is to be expected. The Mac Pro essentially uses workstation/server class parts,...

You could defintely go cheaper and get the same performance. Here in the U.S, Corsair Dominator RAM are overpriced and are rarely worth their high costs. More than likely that's the case in The Netherlands. So drop down to the cheapest DDR3 1600 RAM (if you're overclocking) or DDR3 1333 (if you're not overclocking) and you'll be set. Timings don't really matter but just make sure that the ...
