There is more reason for a heavier spring in the .40 than for the 9mm conversion. And even that is more preference than some real reason. With the .40 slide you already have more mass, so with a 9mm barrel the recoil should be just fine. Early on there were failures in the factory spring assembly, those have become more rare so not as needed to replace it. If you do replace it you get better reliability in that it will not grenade, but the...

Conversion guide rod and springs Hi, I just purchased a 9mm conversion barrel for my XD-40 service. Seems to work just fine with OEM guide rod and springs. As far as I am aware Don does not make one, but Canyon Creek makes a tungsten rod for the 45ACP Service, and it's a cool $85 on pistolgear.com -Thomas

It could be the change in felt recoil... you could be trying to hold the pistol down/ flinching that way during recoil

I've got a XD9 with the mods in my signature. I'm planning on getting a barrel eventually but want to order up a guide rod asap. I use the gun for the range and as a home defense weapon so I'm shooting 115 and 124 grain. Would the guide rod be a good mod? What # spring should I go with? Lastly, where should I purchase? Thanks in advanced guys.
