Penguin, your power supply unit (PSU) is located in the upper portion of the rear of your case. If you remove the access panel on the case, look up and towards the rear of the case. The PSU will have a tag on it with the wattage information. I believe that it will be 300W; possibly 250W. This is going to limit the video card that you can install. Upgrading the PSU to at least 600W would give you many more choices. The card in the...

Hi ReillyS, Clearing the CMOS must be done with power off. You still haven't provided the complete HP model name and product number. They are located on the service tag (it has a barcode) on your PC. Once you do that I can provide a link to the motherboard specifications which also has a photo and diagram. That will makes it easier for you to see where the components are on your motherboard. You can reattach the positive wire to the one coming from the power button as you said but grounding the negative wire to the chassis wouldn't do anything. You need to look at the back of the switch and see where it was soldered to and resolder it to that point. You may be missing a part of the switch because the bulb should attach or plug-in right in the middle of the back of the switch. The black and blue wires with connector are...

Hi Erico - just to repeat your instructions and let you know of the steps taken so far... 1) when you push the power button, does a green or red led light up and stay lit solid(not flashing) at the rear of the PSU? Green stays lit 2) Unplug the PSU connector at the back of the PC. move the voltage selector switch from the position of your local voltage to the other..leave it there for a second and put it back in the original position....

Skyman, the model number of the computer seems to be incorrect. I can't find the specs. However, I know that the video card requires a power supply unit (PSU) with 450W. I believe that the computer you want only has a 300W PSU. Let us know the model and we will check to make certain.

RJ, did you use thermal compound when you installed the CPU? Either way, it sounds like one of the cores is not being cooled properly. I suspect a hot spot, where if you did apply the compound, it is not covered properly. I would remove the CPU and clean all of the surfaces carefully, reapply thermal compound and boot to see what happens. You can even apply a film on the heat sink to...

Hi, I believe this is a laptop not a desktop. You posted in the desktop section but shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I can help. On laptops, you simply follow the same concept or replacing ram but instead of taking out the existing ram stick you simply first obtain an additional ram stick (check links below for recommend ram by me) and then you turn off the laptop, turn it on the ...

Consider the HIS H467PS1GH Radeon HD 4670 iSilence4 1GB fanless video card and you can still use the standard HP power supply. Otherwise, a new 450 watt power supply unit would be required.

Ubertoad, is it the case fan or the fan on the video card? I would first try installing the latest driver for the card. Personally, I always used 'Option 2' to locate the proper driver when I had nVidia based cards. Let us know if this helps.

I am sorry to say, even if the card would fit into your computer, the power supply unit (PSU) does not have enough wattage (160W) to run it properly. I believe that it takes a minimum of 300W for the card, though the specs didn't mention it. The fact is, Slimline models are not meant for gaming. They were designed for surfing the net, word processing, storing pictures and ...

Did you check the device security under the BIOS to see if the devices wer "hidden"? Otherwise, you should see the SATA HDD's in the Boot Order screen. http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/S upportManual/c01870957/c01870957.pdf Message Edited by sclui56 on 11-20-2009 10:49 AM

Hi, A 250 Watt PSU is a bit wimpy. You will have to state which specific video card(s) you have in mind. It makes life a bit simpler when looking up the card s[ecifications. Within the NVIDIA 8000 and 9000 series there cards are some which have a higher power requirement and some that do not. Some Also require that your PSU have the ATX12V V2.0 specification. That spec means that ...
