have a look at http://www.dabs.com/products/belkin-...uter-4QKS.html seems to be within your price range, and you get the benefit of gigabit ports etc, see spec: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=377018

Different packages. My landlord (irrationally) switched us from BT/Tiscali to TTalk's basic package with 8Mbit connection and 40GB cap (combined upload and download) due to his great dislike for BT. TTalk provides 'boosters', for instance 8Mbit -> 24Mbit and 40GB -> 80GB at £4 each . I am on O2 Premium which is rated at 20Mbit (synchronising at 19Mbit) with no limit subject to fair use. At 16.5Mbit (typically...

Hey, It's entirely router dependant mate - some play ball with the PS3/UPnP (like my old D-Link) and others just don't! Was I roughly right re. my security risk assumptions though? Well I tried just setting it up simply by typing public IP in the left column and local IP in the right... seems to have worked!! Both PS3's show "NAT Type 2" when simultaneously connected, which never used to happen before. So...

Run a f8lure test for a few days (sign up first), it should return a graph with your pings against the time and date like my two below.
By using these graphs you can determine if your issues are time dependant i.e. peak time congestion or a bad line, or both.
If it's just congestion, there isn't much you can do but switch ISP. Of course you can complain, but I've not had much fun ...

Escalate it it back to VM. Could be that the cable router has died.

Out of those 8 addresses, 1 is the subnet, one is broadcast (for the subnet) and one will be required for the router, leaving you with five usable addresses. The one going to the router can be used for NAT, so you still have 5 public IP addresses for other things. How easy it is to use them will depend on the router - I use a Draytek 2800 and route some of my public IP addresses to devices ...

What speed cable can you get at your house? If you can get 50Mbps, get that, else I recommend Be* or O2 if you're a paying O2 customer.

I am assuming you need to enter a figure for the upstream bandwidth so that QOS knows what the value that needs divided is and based on that value probably reserve a high percentage for high priority traffic.
Give that a try see how it goes.

I would use a draytek router at both ends, its quite easy to setup and not very expensive. OpenVPN is good but if you have never used it before its not really best to start in a production environment.

You can buy modular outlets and build whatever you want.
Screwfix have loads to choose from with Philex being my personal brand of choice
EDIT: Server in the attic is usually a bad idea - freezing cold during the winter and roasting during the summer

You can get boxes that will convert VGA to be sent over the ethernet cable (not over existing network) but if you don't want a VGA cable running all that way your aren't going to want a ethernet cable.

if you have deleted public then you will need to contact the host to have this setup again, you should not be able to delete the public folder though.
