I would get a Q8400 or Q9400 IMHO: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164520 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148545 I would get 4GB of this low latency PC2-6400 DDR2: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143844 The HD4870 512MB has also dropped in price: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169206 The E8*** series are overpriced. More and more games are starting to take advantage of multiple cores so a quad core is a better choice IMHO than a dual core over £80.

That looks fine. I mean he might want a better GPU, but that should be fine for most purposes.

Ahhh that makes sense. CPU based physics engines would become far more viable, heck crysis might actually become playable

Based on that picture, installing it doesn't seems hard at all. And in fact probably one of the easiest, provided you're not trying to install on an existing system without unscrewing the board. Normally you hold the motherboard, put the backplate in and put your CPU in, then put thermal paste. After that you place the motherboard on a flat surface, then put the heatsink on top and tighten....

I would look at: Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £124 http://www.scan.co.uk/ShopOffers/Index.aspx MSI 770-C45 ~ £49 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/MSI-7...dio-GB-LAN- ATX This is a decent motherboard for the price but I would not overclock an X4 955BE using it as you would need beefier power regulation IMHO. OR GA-MA770T-UD3P ~ £68 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GIGAB...770T-...

Should be in hardware or help really... However I'll lend what knowledge I have anyway. What's budget? If you can afford it get an i7 920 and a Gigabyte UD3R. If not then an i5 750 and again a Gigabyte UD3R (but a different socket obviously).

Cant really give any suggestions without a price range - HTPC cases can range from ~£40 for cheeper cases, right up to several hundert pounds. And also a case is generally what you like, to one person it may look great, but to the other be ugly. To see some HTPC cases look here: http://www.scan.co.uk/Index.aspx?NT=1-0-6-210-0 (silverstone and lian-li, both which should be very nice cases)...
