WTF?! That's outrageous! I thought the concept of "the spirit of the law" is what is important in this case. Clearly someone who picks up a gun and takes it straight to the police station is not a criminal. If the jury cannot see this, then they need to be shot.

I would go along with that - if the law states that possession is illegal, and he was in possession of a firearm, then he's guilty. Hopefully the judge has enough sense to realise that there's no benefit to giving this guy any kind of a sentence, but we'll see. I still can't even begin to imagine what he was thinking of when he took it to the station himself - maybe some will disagree but I can't help wondering...
