See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neratinib Also, from National Cancer Institute: NCI Drug Dictionary neratinib An orally available, 6,7-disubstituted-4-anilinoquinoline-3-carbonitrile irreversible inhibitor of the HER-2 receptor tyrosine kinase with potential antineoplastic activity. Neratinib binds to the HER-2 receptor irreversibly, thereby reducing autophosphorylation in cells, apparently by targeting a cysteine residue in the ATP-binding...

No doubt it's controversial. but the way it seems to be practiced is not quite the way ACS describes it. Warburg effect and glycolysis has been around and ignored for a long time . There are numerous indications (Metformin) the concept has some merit. Whether IPT has merit is hard to tell considering the lack of formal trials. But at an admittedly simplistic level, it seems to exploit the same mechanisms that Glucose based PET imaging...

Welcome aboard !! I ditto the advice about dressing warmly. Bring a sweater, wear nice warm socks, bring some snacks, water, and something to do while you are waiting. Going to most chemo rooms is like going to Alaska. The rooms are pretty cold for the machines and most of the medicine they put inside people comes out of a refrigerator. Hospital departments that have alot of machines are also cold, so make sure you dress warmly for those...

Hi - We know there are a lot of good-hearted people "out there." I would expect a friend or church member to bring food, but my oncologist?? Elaine, maybe that is the difference between living on a tropical island and a big, cold, busy, spread out city! Such a nice experience to share with us!

I'll try to copy and paste. Fighting a smarter war on cancer By John L. Marshall Sunday, November 29, 2009 In my practice as an oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal tract cancers, a recent week was fairly typical. I saw 50 patients, ranging in age from 32 to 87, equally divided between men and women. Though a couple of them have inherited a gene that may have caused their GI cancers, I have no explanation for why most developed...

Hi Dianne,
Please know that you are not alone. I'm weakly ER+ as well (5%) and having my original biopsy retested to confirm my status. I'm premenopausal (39 years old) and my period stopped during chemo in April and returned in October during radiation. My oncologist put me on Tamoxifen, and so far no period yet. I'm doing fine on it, with no apparent side effects besides the likely ...

Hi Janokee and welcome,
I'm so sorry you have to join us but glad you found us.
Herceptin has changed the dire prognosis many of us had, and you'll be encouraged to see there are many long term survivors here at all stages thanks to this drug.

What an interesting [yet 'dangerous' (anybody remembers what Dr. John Nash, a Nobel Laureate, had suffered from ' insulin shock therapy' as was described in the movie 'A Beautiful Mind'?) - see below]concept!
But I was disappointed after I had visited their website. There's only one technician with the expertise of 'Breast cancer prevention'.
Here's what I have found at the ACS (American ...

Mary Anne, I am happy you posted that you're beginning the Neratinib Trial. I am going to talk to my onco in January about it. Thanks to Sheila for helping me pronounce it correctly!
I will be following your progress, Mary Anne. I am anxious and excited for you. Give your sweet granddaughter a small squeeze, what a lucky girl she is to have you. 10 years old, I love that age.

There is some suggestion that changing the Xeloda dose to a metronomic (without break week)approach may maintain the efficacy. A lower dose may make that possible, as strange as that sounds. The Tykerb might not be the problem.

What an interesting question. I feel thankful to feel better this year than last. I appreciate life.
The hustle and bustle gets a bit stressful and overwhelming. I am trying to time manage, and fit fun in among the work.
I do not think you should feel guilty for surviving. Hasn't it been difficult? Haven't you fought for your survival? Rejoice and be thankful. You have much to give...

Hi Celeste, I am truly so touched by your message to me. I am having a rough time right now but I keep telling myself...this too will pass. This Orthopedic doctor never told me how painful this was going to be. I am just misrable and sitting here alone today. My husband took off alot of time from work during my surgery so he finally went back yesterday. Since it's Disneyland he works today too. (...
