Rash on Herceptin?
Published (2009-12-16 21:00:00)
Running nose is probably caused by an allergic reaction and it could be part of the reason why we are given 'antihistamine' and stuff like benedryl. The cumulation of histamine - produced by our body when confronted with 'foreign' objects - is one possible reason for having the 'symptom' of a 'running nose'. Please be sure to talk to your oncology nurse if it's not improving or becoming bothersome....

freaking out about chemo
Published (2009-12-09 13:52:00)
I was so scared at my first chemo infusion that I paced up and down the room, dragging my pole with me, all around the other people in their lounge chairs. The next time I came in, doctor ordered anti-anxiety drug. That was a good thing. It got easier as time went by. In fact, it didn't take long before I was chatting with other patients while I was getting my infusion. Don't forget, we Her2s get Herceptin infustions for a full year....

Herceptin Monotherapy - Triple...
Published (2009-12-15 21:18:00)
Hi Alene, I'm on just Herceptin only right now. Much easier than Cytoxan/Adriamycin or Taxol/Herceptin combo (which I was on prior to this). Mainly just mild body aches (similar to having had a long work-out and just being stiff). My hair is slowly but surely making a come-back with Herceptin and my blood counts are starting to make a comeback as well. So...from my perspective nothing to majorly worry about for you with regards to taking...

Seven years out - Herceptin??
Published (2009-12-14 22:49:00)
I doubt that there are trials, but about the time I say that...there could be! I did Herceptin 26 months after my last chemotherapy treatment, and have no regrets. The current news on Her2+ seems to be saying that even very early/small her2+ tumors should have herceptin because they are more apt to return than Her 2- tumors. If your onc will go along with it, I'd do it... Barb

Survived chemo-now nausea
Published (2009-12-16 18:56:00)
I also had the AC combo (before I moved to Taxol and Herceptin) and I definitely experienced nausea. But I agree that you should talk to the nurses as often as needed. They probably have already told you that it is easier to prevent the nausea than to "roll it back"- listen to them. That is so true. They told me to take meds if I even thought that I might be feeling nausea. They are also likely to give you some other tips (sucking on...

Survived chemo-now nausea

Hey There Thanks everyone for the support last week. I had my port surgery ( very reluctantly, I might add) last Thurs and Chemo on Friday. I still am not in love with this port. It is literally a "Pain in my neck" Chemo went off without a hitch. The oncology nurses was super nice and very helpful. Felt great Fri and Sat (even went to work and a birthday party) Sunday and Mon thought I died and went to hell. Couldn't eat a...

I can't remember much right now about my chemo experience. But I must have had some kind of reaction during my first infustion because the rest of the 5 chemos I was heavily 'premeded' with benedryl and tylenol before the infusion.

Congrats on having number one behind you. I am sorry you are dealing with nausea. It may be best to check with you onc. nurse before taking any home remedies. I was instructed to use only what they recommended and I did not vary from their cocktail. If what they recommend is not working let them know. I am sure they will be able to suggest something else to help you. Are you on a two ...

Alene, Welcome to the Board. Sorry you have to be here, but I'm glad you have found us - your 'sisters'. I've read recently several cases stating that the b.c. recurred and changed its nature to HER2. Personally I don't quite believe that. I think they just misdiagnosed it the first time and didn't want to admit it. There are a couple members here who had their old samples retested and ...

Congratulations on 7 years cancer free! There are several members who did the 'late Herceptin' after it had been approved to be 'the' treatment for Her2 Breast Cancer. Pay attention to members' signatures - especially in the thread of 'long-time survivors'. (Use the 'Search' button on the top bar.) Hopefully some of them will see this and reply directly.

Reality has a way of doing that! I really identified with your subject line. I remember freaking out too. Can you get an appointment with your oncologist to explain everything? You have a right to understand what is being suggested. Be sure to have a list of questions and have someone with you to HEAR the answers! I was too frighened to absorb information. I was in a "grey area" so I actually ...

Thank you all for your replies. ahdubose, I'm glad to hear it's not too bad for you. Did you have hair loss with taxol? I have heard that it doesn't always cause your hair to fall out and that some have actually started to grow their hair back while on taxol.
