Whenever you connect via component, HDMI, etc, you use the sending device to perform the CC - for example, the
STB, whatever is connected. What is the make/model of the device you're trying to watch/connect?

Hook up a VCR or DVD player to the TV. If it doesn't work, that pretty much rules out a cableTV/cable receiver issue.
You can also try unlugging the TV and cable box from wall power for a few minutes. Sometimes a "hard reset" can clear strange problems.
Also, unplug/re-plug all video connectors from cable box to TV
at both ends. May just be a loose connection.

Check the video setup options in the
cable box.
Make sure they are set 16:9 (widescreen) and 480p for standard definition and 1080i for high definition.

For a bedroom set I would'nt bother. Use the $200 towards a BD player.

With many LCD and plasma sets, it is a known problem. The display's "
spectrum" of light interferes with some IR devices.
Most have resolved the issue by placing a piece of masking tape over the IR lens of the cable box.
