well theres an alternative xeon x3440, similar price to a i5 750, lower clock speeds (2.53GHz but has hyper threading too) ~ £160 for a downcut i7 860 just using it with the oc genie at the moment but they are good for 3.6-3.8GHz http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42928

In gaming, it's most likely a bottleneck at medium-resolutions (at or beyond 1280x1024). How much money do you have to spend on a new GPU?

The best boards for overclocking s775 quads is the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R or the UD3P. Not sure about the older P35's. The X48 lags behind these boards as well imo.

I think you will be real happy with that dedicated water unit, H50.
I've thought about the same 2 products myself and like them both but, the Corsair wins out. Wish they had it back in the day when I was first starting out.
Good luck

I don't know about everyone else, but that's pretty damn disappointing, even on the absolute lowest in game settings there are almost no gains in games. Seeing as that gpu could easily handle all of the games benched with 16qaa at 60 frames, I think there would be maybe 1 frame per secone more...maybe not even.
Said it all along, wait for sandy bridge

The table over at Hardwaresecrets says maximum temperature is 67.9°C. 48°C is a bit high for an idle temp, but hey you're using the stock cooler.
Oh, and what case do you have?

Dual Channel = Speed
More RAM = More Apps open simutatiously / Bigger RAM hungry apps can be used for heavy tasks like Video Editing
All depends on what you use the PC for really

With your budget you can do many things better than that, if you wanna move to Quads look out for a Q9550 at least, then pick up one Ati HD5870 for example, that will make your system work far better than the one with Q8X00 + HD5770 Crossfire. I wonder if your mobo will let you squeeze a little bit that Q9550. You can even consider moving onto a AMD Phenom platform wich ...

Put your old motherboard back in but use the same new power supply, if the old motherboard also shuts down unpredictably with the new power supply as it did with your new one then it's most likely a power supply issue, also you can try using your old power supply with the new motherboard to see if the problem still occurs and if it doesn't then it's defiantly an issue ...
