Allergic reaction to Lepto
Published (2009-11-11 13:52:00)
couple of thoughts. IMO dogs that itch a lot from allergies are likely pre-disposed to having more reactions & more severe reactions to vaccinations than supposedly "normal" dogs. Basically allergy symptoms are a reflection of an immune system that reacts more strongly to certain irritants than the average individual in a population does Good point. Also keep in mind that the body requires exposure to build the...

I don't believe a dog who eats his stools and others has anything to do with being hungry. I wouldn't use that behave as a sign of being hungry. Many dogs do that.[/quote] then what does it mean. obviously he is not getting what he needs from his normal intake

We Found a Deer Tick on Trudy!

find something that works to your satisfaction and then stick with it till it doesnt work anymore. right now i am using comfortis for fleas cuz the ticks here are done for the fall/winter. come next spring i will have to either start in with frontline for ticks or find something else. i may go with a preventic collar, as i have heard good things about them. some folks also like vectra, but i have heard good and bad reports. one thing i do know...

We Found a Deer Tick on Trudy!
Published (2009-11-09 09:59:00)
Dog Dr., I have used the Preventic collars the past couple years. While I don't live in a particularly tick infested area, I must admit I have not pulled a single tick off the dogs while they have been using the collars. Picked a few off myself, but nothing on the dogs. My younger dog was with a trainer during the first part of May thru the end of June and was in the field daily. When he left he had a new Preventic collar and I was told...

I don't have an answer, but I do find a question. if the Eagle Pak is working in the "offseason" why do you switch the dog off of it...will he not maintain on it ? The other question i have is does the dog look unhealthy when it loses weight when he's being worked or is he just getting in better shape like we all do when we go from a sedentary life style to one of exersize?

Matt, I'm not a canine expert but have a fair amount of experience with humans. Most of the reactions to vaccinations that i've witnessed are due to the additives in the vaccine and not the vaccine itself. I have a reaction like that to some, not all, versions of the t.b. skin test solution. It's also complicated by the fact that the dog got all at once so you can't know which one caused the ...

You probably found the culprit and if it is the weeds then it should get better with a good frost which will be soon. Its been found that 99% of the allergies that used to be blamed on the feed are really environmental and resperatory(sp). Ezzy

That is a good question and I used to be concerned about really high protein levels. There are studies around that indicate that the quality of protein is the critical factor and not the level. There are a few foods that are are 40% and higher but the sources of protein are top grade animal proteins and not grain-based proteins. If my dog would eat kibble I would use them and not worry.
