Who shoots flintlocks?
Published (2009-12-19 01:01:00)
> Hello Sadly, there is such a lack of information about how to shoot traditional muzzleloading guns, both flintlocks and percussion guns, that the consumer is left with whatever is the newest fad, and whatever the clerk at the local Wal-Mart doesn't know about guns. Cap and ball guns are close enough to cartridge guns, and even to the in-line actions, that clerks can't steer you too far wrong if you choose to buy a modern rifle...

> It is very simple actually. The breech plug is just a matter removing the old plug with the 7/16" socket. The bolt is a little more complicated but still easy.Google Remington 700 ML and you can get the whole manual. Its not hard,I just can't explain it to you in this manner.I can't use my hands I have tried it out a fews times and really like what it has done for my rifle.I think its well worth the price.

Published (2009-12-19 00:45:00)
> Sorry I didn't get back sooner Varmintmist. Yes it's scraping about an inch maybe a tad more but I think it has a gouge across it where the scraping starts and the scrape marks look wavy. Maybe it IS chattering.I just messed with it with just powder in the pan and got it to light 10 times in a row. How many firings are usual for an agate flint? I got over 20 hits on it now and the last 10 were in a row. It's pretty ugly,...

Don't bounce the rod! this is my method for most accurate load. Pour in the powder, slap side of rifle to make sure powder settles into touch hole. Then I use a dry lubed over powder wad pushed down to contact the powder. Now seat the patched ball (TC prelubed patch) or full patch lubed bullet with a firm push on the powder of 25 lbs. Don't bounce the rod like you ...

I shot 70FFFg in my .54 flinter and had good results. You just have to try loads out and see what it likes. BTW, I shot 60 FFFg out of my .50.

Are you saying you have had bad results with the .50 patched round ball? If so your experience is the exact opposite of mine. I have killed over 60 deer with the 30-06. I have killed 7 deer with the .50 round ball, and 6 more wild hogs with the round ball. Day in and day out the round ball is a better deer killer than the 30-06. I made lung shots on all deer shot ...

I use Graf's 2F in 45-70's. Have been using it for 5 years or so. It shoots as good as I can shoot. I don't see a measurable difference using Swiss 1 1/2. If you're talking pistol cartridges, I use Graf 3F for 45 colt, 44-40, 44 S&W, 44 Special/ Magnum, 38 Special, 38 S&W, and 32 S&W. Works great. Also use it in all my C&B revolvers. The cost of Graf's ...

Not to answer your question, but, when I was a kid my parents got me a toy muzzleloader for Christmas. This was probably 1960. It was a mock-up of a Kentucky rifle. This rifle shot a cork round ball! Where the drum was, there was a flat place where you stuck a Greenie Stick-em cap. A hole went from there into the breech. You loaded the cork round ball, and rammed it ...

1F burns dirtier. It works best in "overbore" rifles (.60 on up). You probably can't get 70 grains of 1F in modern cases.

I was just looking at the newer version offered by Cabelas. They are making them differently than what I got last year.I like the looks of the newer one better.I'll bet there is less blow back with the new one. It doesn't say that it is made in Canada. The older ones were.
