QOTD: Nothing really comes to mind. I always try so hard to get each person the perfect gift each year. WFD: We'll start with BLT stuffed cherry tomatoes and a?cheese ball. For the main course it's turkey, cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, canned yams, cole slaw, rolls. We'll finish up with a cherry cheese cake, pecan pie, and gooey pumpkin cake.? I ?just gained 10 pounds writing all that!

QoTD : a few years ago I bought DH a real lightsaber. He almost pooped his pants when he opened the box. He is a huge Star Wars fan so I knew he'd love it. WFD : Even though it isn't Thanksgiving here ( Canada) we are celebrating since MIL and DH's cousin are coming from Buffalo. I'll serve chicken breast, pork tenderloin, Praline Sweet Potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls, corn and pumpkin pie for dessert. I would have served...

"You need a one pound bag of brown sugar, cinnamon, a 1/2 cup of butter, about 5 small yams, and large marshmallows." I just have to ask.? Really on the pound of brown sugar?? How much of the pound do you use?

I would say store them in a tight sealed freezer bag or something similar so that no air gets in.? For tomorrow I would say heat up for a few minutes in the oven - microwave would be mush and oven at least will keep crisp.

sifting flour?
Published (2009-11-25 00:00:00)
My grandmother used to tell me that if you didn't want to sift the flour, you just tap it down into the measuring cup, and then cut off about a 1/4 teaspoon amount to compensate for what would have been taken out during sifting. I'm not sure if that's helpful. Honestly, I don't even do that much. I just measure out the right amount and leave it at that. lol.

QOTD - I am not a big leftovers fan. I do like curries reheated the next day - they always seem to taste better. And I used to save beef sausages to make grilled sandwiches with !
WFD - we had breaded steak, corn cakes and the kids had fruit, I had a salad

yes you can use the chicken bouillon to make broth/stock. I can never keep those two straight. I think one is made with roasting the bones and meat. You can leave out the dry sherry also. It's just for added flavor.
Just to let you know you can make your own cream soups. it's easy and I do it all the time. I can't tell you the last time I bought one!

I usually just make a basic flour and water slury and add to the skimmed drippings. I know many recipes say to use the fat and make a roux but you don't have to if you just use the flour and water. Put cold water in a container with a lid and add flour, start with about a half cup of water and 2-3 TBS flour. Shake well to avoid lumps and add to your drippings in a sauce pan, wisking constantly. ...

sure. Do you have any other cheese? You can easily change up the flavors, or just leave it out entirely.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to bake the store bought graham crusts. Definitely bend the foil back a little before slicing it.

I get requests for 2 pies. A caramel pie (from OCharleys) and something my gma called an Uncle Charleys pie. A caramel pie is made by boiling 2 small cans of fat free condensed milk for 4 hours. Turn them over every hour and check about every 20 minutes to add more hot water. Then pour them in a graham cracker crust and top with whipped cream. An Uncle Charleys pie is made by mixing crushed...

We're going to deep fry a turkey on Thanksgiving. My DH wants to make use of the hot oil and fry other stuff too. We were thinking of maybe doing a blooming onion (the new issue of Food Network Magazine has a knock off recipe). But I don't really have any other ideas since we don't usually fry things. What would you do? TIA.

Maybe a Jello salad. We usually have one - but I like to do one that is not really heavy with whipping cream or cream cheese since so many other things on the table are rich/heavy.

I like to utilize my crock pot for this recipe but you dont have to.
Chicken breasts or thighs cooked in the crokc pot with broth and or tomato sauce or V-8 juice for 6-8 hours
when the chicken is ready just shred with a fork mix in mild chilis (optional) and mexican cheese blend and stuff into corn tortillas. Roll them up and top them with either a prepared enchilada sauce or you can ...

this is our favorite cranberry sauce recipe:
Cranberries with Port
MAKES ABOUT 3 CUPS
1 cup ruby port 1 cup sugar 1 12-oz. bag fresh cranberries
1. In a medium nonstick saucepan, combine port, sugar, and cranberries. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Lower heat and cook until liquid reaches a syrupy consistency, about 20 minutes.

just made this one yesterday to bring to my niece's Christening lunch. Everyone raved about it and it is so simple. I doubled it (or just about) as we had dinner for 13 people, and I am glad I did. It was a hit! I would definitely make this again. And the viniagrette was great - you could make it for any type of salad, even leaving the cranberries out.
