Stomach virus (me, not baby)
Published (2009-11-28 00:00:00)
One day of not eating is not going to really hurt your supply. ?Just keep drinking water. Ginger can help with nausea if you can keep that down. ?Canned peaches are also good for nausea.

Empty Breasts- PLEASE HELP!
Published (2009-11-27 00:00:00)
Your breasts are never empty. ?They may feel empty but they are not. ?Your babies are still wetting plenty of dipes so your supply is fine. ?It is very normal to not feel as full or to feel empty. ?It is not a problem. ?Take a look at this link. www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/breast-f... It sounds like one of your babies may be going through a distracted phase. ?Also very normal. ?You might try nursing her in a quiet and dark room. ?If she is...

Don't give up! You can do this! http://www.kellymom.com/bf/start/basics/latch-resources.html Kudos to you for making it this far! 6 weeks is just around the corner and that is when things generally get better for most breastfeeding pairs. Your baby's mouth still may be small in relation to your breast. Have you done the breast sandwich? Grab your breast behind your areola (with your thumb on top and the rest of your fingers...

Published (2009-11-25 00:00:00)
He is not using YOU as a pacifier, it is the other way around.? Pacifiers were invented to substitute for the human nipple.? For most BFing moms, the first 8-10 weeks are a blur of constant nursing.? They go through a tremendous about of growing in that time and constantly need to nurse.? Also, not all BFing is done for nutrition, babies do a lot of comfort nursing as well in the early months.? This is completely normal - just let him suck...

Thanks.? I didn't know about the peaches.? Stomach is much better now, but I'm really dehydrated and trying to drink lots of fluids.? Had to give DD a bottle of BM because she was hungry and I wasn't producing much.? I'm hoping I can re-hydrate quickly and get my supply back up asap.?

Supplementing with formula?
Published (2009-11-25 00:00:00)
--Is refrigerated breastmilk really much better than formula (since a lot of the beneficial stuff is lost when milk is stored)? TONS better, it still has TONS more nutrients than formula, its nutrients are better absorbed, and theres no random nasty toxins and additives in your BM.? Formula is alive and putting it in thr frige or freezer kills SOME of it..formula has never been and will never be alive, formula is missing over 100 ingredients...

What kind of freezer do u freeze...
Published (2009-11-28 00:00:00)
The 2 week rule is only if the freezer compartment is inside the refrigerator compartment (older style).? If the freezer is above, below, or beside the refrigerator, you can store for 3-6 mths (though I more often hear 3).? If you get a chest freezer, you have 6-12 mths ( http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkstorage.html ). HTH!

Intimidated by pumping ---...
Published (2009-11-28 00:00:00)
If you miss feedings, you should pump to maintain your milk supply. If the baby decides to drop a feeding, then the baby no longer needs to eat at that time and after a couple of days your body will adjust to not producing milk which is not needed. So, if you skip feedings to get a rest, you are giving your body the false message to produce less milk, resulting in your supply to drop. If it just happens once in a while, this is no big deal,...

This hasn't happened to me (well her strikes have been for one feeding at a time) but I have read on this board that you should try nursing when she's asleep or almost asleep. GL!

The yellow/orange are normal if your LO is getting the proper balance. I read that the green comes sometimes if they are not getting to the hindmilk.

totally normal!! There are several growth spurts that they go through and when they are in them they eat all the time. It is a pretty amazing way that they help to increase your supply. Keep letting her nurse on demand and soon she will drop back to a more reasonable number of times in a day.
Hang in there!

Is it possible to pump enough that I will have BM on hand when I am away for 8 hours at a time??
Absolutely! As long as you pump every 2-3 hours, you should be able to produce enough BM for your LO while you are away. Remember, your LO only needs 1-1.25oz of BM for each hour that you are away, so no more than 8-12oz. Also, make sure you divide those ounces into 2-3oz increments to ...

How old is your baby?
You're only nursing twice a day and supplementing with formula the rest of the time, right? Are you also pumping regularly at all?
If you're only nursing twice a day, and you can still get 3-4 oz when you pump, I'd say that's actually pretty impressive. 3-4 oz is a very normal pumping output.
However, if you want to increase supply, there really is no other way ...

It's just so hard to determine if a diaper rash was caused by something you ate or something he ate. Sometimes it just happens. I would try as much air time as you can get. Just let him sit with no diaper on at all. It's one of the best ways to clear up diaper rash.
I'd also google and take a look at a yeast rash to make sure it's not yeast.

I have had my husband give Charlotte two bottles due to nipple soreness. I expressed it by hand and he immediately fed her because I needed to heal and have a break for just a short time. We use the breastflow bottles and have not had any problem with her prefering it over me.
Granted she has only had two bottles, but she was only a week and a half old. We do have a strong breastfeeding ...

That's very normal. The fact that the pain is going away after a few seconds means that it's not a latch problem, as does the fact that you're not cracked or bleeding.
It should get vastly better within another couple of weeks. Then, you might still get some soreness once in a while when your baby goes through a growth spurt or whatever. But your nipples will toughen up.

What was his birthweight? How big was he at 6 mos? Babies slow way down after 6 mos, an oz of gain a week is normal in a bf baby at this age. Which means it can take upwards of 3.5 mos to gain a #! Olivia gained not quite 1.5# from 6-9 mos. She's 9.5 mos and 16.5#. She just doubled her birthweight at 9 mos, lol. A small baby at 6 mos more than likely isn't going to become a giant by 9 or even ...

Oh my goodness I have had the same problem. I wish I could give you some amazing advice but it seems for us it just kind of got easier. The one thing I noticed is that if they are coming down on the nipple instead of it coming down toward them that it hurts less.like almost sitting up if that makes sense
I hope you can stick it out and see if maybe he will just relax a little more so it does ...

Well I'm starting to feel like giving up on breast feeding. My little guy is 13 weeks and is a huge eater. As of right now he gets breast milk most of the day. But I have been giving him about 6 oz of formula to fill his belly. The problem is my supply is dwindling away. I feel like I'm never full enough for him. He's eating so aggressively. I know he went through his growth spurt He's also ...

Every woman is different. Maybe you just won't be as hungry as some. Personally I felt like I was starving for the first 4 weeks and couldn't get enough food. But after that I don't have much of an appetite and I make myself eat snacks and things to keep up my strength

PP is right. Give it time. Also don't limit yourself to a year. I had planned to only BF for a year, but DS will be 1 next week and there is no way I could consider weening him now. I'm hoping to go for 2 years now.
