Welcome, ronka68! You might want to start a new topic thread about your girl. We do have some members here that have gone through amp/chemo with various results. We do have a few dogs that are 2, or even 3 years post amputation and still doing well. However, they are in the minority. Much depends on how early your hound is diagnosed, if the osteo has already spread, and how agressive their particular case of osteo might be. I would...

Actually, there are vets all over the place out here. I called around when we first moved here, and got hooked up with a grey-savvy vet pretty quickly, but she left. I called around again, but no one claimed to be really knowledgeable about sighthounds, though some said they had a few as patients. I ended up with this guy because his clinic is the bloodbank where my boys give blood, and because he seemed more knowledgeable than the vet right...

Hemangiosarcoma

That's horrendous. A few studies show if it's recognized early enough when it's grade 1 or 2, chemo would work. It doesn't work once it's Grade 3 or 4. I found this out too late though. Our Cullen died from retroperitoneal hemangiosarcoma in Feb 08. It was in the abdominal wall muscles near his left hip. It grew fast once we could see it. He didn't have lots of them; I saw two, one of which was removed. I emailed...

Hello, and welcome to Greytalk. I wish you visit were under better circumstances. Our Max, 11.5 was diagnosed very early with Osteo. We didn't do a biopsy. I don't do amputations, but only palliative care (pain management) with mine. With pain management, Max lived three months after his diagnosis, and we even able to move out of Florida, to the mountains with us. If you are thinking ...

Hey, Dee, after this cleaning, might ask your vet and vet tech about bringing her in once a month for light scaling/polishing while she's awake. Won't totally eliminate the problem but might prolong times between "serious" cleanings; removing any plaque deposited at the gumline helps keep more from building up there and causing soreness. We've done this for Zema. Funny thing is, Zema who...

Check out the Wisdom panel---it seems to be pretty accurate. The company will present you with a really nice print-out with the results.

what type of " saline" is it? Is it Normosol R, LR, D5W, etc. That's important. Secondly, will your vet still supply the set? A new one should be used each week since there's a good chance to introduce an infection if the set isn't changed with each bag.

Gosh, sorry to hear this! Could be anything from what you are describing. Hopefully the bloodwork will show something, so you can get it treated and go from there. IT would be sooo many things. Welcome to Greytalk! Sorry it has to be under these circumstances. As you said, it is good that your grey is still drinking. Please let us know what the lab results show and what the vet thinks....

Hershey had not been acting right for a couple of days. Sometimes she does have a little snit of not eating and doing her own thing. Yesterday she only ate half of her daily food and was just laying around and acting listless. At first I thought she was feeling my emotions about Sandi's passing. This morning would not touch any of her food and was worse than the day before of not wanting to...

Ah! I'd forgotten to ask the vet about B12 injections. I've just written it down. Again. I'm thinking (but was too flustered to ask) that her "starvation" must be in part to malabsorption. I should have guessed. It seemed she was having to eat a lot at each meal to keep her weight on. Lori, I'm so glad to hear ol' Tucker is doing so well! Happy's almost his age. *crossing ...

QUOTE(8_Greyt_Greys @ Nov 24 2009, 08:04 PM) We had a girl get spayed today . She had a lot of bleeding and is still seeping. Please keep her in you thought and prayers. She has a home waiting for her. We have to call the vets later to see how she is. Will update as soon as we hear something. Thank you so much. Can you get her some Aminocaproic Acid? That's what OSU uses for...

So I was talking with my dogsitter about how I would likely to have to cancel plans for going away for a day next weekend because I can't expect her to carry Tuna in and out of the house the way I have been doing. The handyman who came out a week ago never did get back with me so I guess he did not want the job. The dogsitter said she had a neighbor who was very handy and had some pieces of...

I hate these staph infections. Elvis has one, and we've been fighting it for a year. Everytime we thought it was gone, we quit giving meds, and it was back. We finally did a biopsy. The meds couldn't keep it way, so it was time for a specialist. Elvis finally went the day before Thanksgiving. The biopsy results told the specialist what it wasn't, but didn't say what it was exactly. But a ...
