In short, no. Although, it is hard to know the point at which simple sensory signals that some single celled organisms experience such as heat, vibration, and intensity of light form a "consciousness".
I guess we'd have to ask ourselves this question: What constitutes as consciousness?
Sorry, a bit of a science geek, here. I try not to let it out in public =).

if life has a purpose, we do our part simply by living and dying...
life to me is parasitic... it feeds itself on the energy of the system around it, and through exploitation of that system and a number of sensory inputs to connect it to that system, it can feed on the easiest source of energy... ...

Maybe it's the ability to pick up vibes? Some might call it reading body language well, or being able to tell differences in tones. Honestly though, I'm pretty good at reading people and I don't even think about those things, I just kinda...feel it and know. Idk maybe I'm an idiot but maybe that's kinda a sense.
