It's very hard not to try too hard when matched with a group who are all better than me. That's the only situation where I sometimes start trying too hard and it can really ruin my day. Fortunately, that's pretty rare and there's usually at least 1 guy I can hang with. I'm used to playing with guys who can hit it past me all day. That doesn't bother me and is not likely to change as I age.

Thanks guys for the advise. I have a round at EastLake Sunday. It seems the tee time is full. Should be someone in there that's about like me. Nice easy course too...except for that pond on #9...gives me fits.

I`ve played with all kinds of players and find that my game gets a little better with the better players, but my game mostly is so bad that if I stopped playing because someone is better then me, I`d never play.I just try to beat my last round and enjoy!!!

My Fall Season
Published (2009-11-10 10:03:00)
This weekend is supposed to be another great one for golf. Maybe I will be able to get out again. I'm still not sure If I've really missed the game a lot, but I did enjoy the camaraderie of my fellow golfers. It was good to know that my skills hadn't deterioated that much after not playing for a month.

cart fees
Published (2009-11-05 00:43:00)
My club course has set the trail fees at about $800 if you want to use their cart, or you can pay ~$1200 and use the club's carts (both, unlimited). So when you factor in the cost/maintenance of the cart, it is almost prohibitive to have your own cart. Or, you can use the club's carts on a 'per use' basis ($10/9 holes; $20/18 holes).

So, I haven't been very religious, but my back is feeling great, and I will refrain from any heavy lifting.
Pistol, I have been trying to remember our history in these TriFectas. I think it's been 7-8 years that we've been having them, sometimes twice a year. I know quite a few times you had conflicts and couldn't play, and I played with several other partners then. But, the ones we played,...

I used to play with a bunch of low handicappers (4 was the highest in the bunch) and at first, I would really get nervous playing with them. Eventually, I saw all of them hit an awful shot, just like me and it took some of the nerves away. I mean nobody plays perfect, they just played a lot closer to it than me.
Once I accepted their skills, I stopped trying to drive it out there with them, ...

Things are winding down for many of us with the approach of the season I will not name. Hopefully I'll be able to play for another month(knocks wood). This is the time of year when rates & traffic are down and I also happen to have a lot of time off, so I travel around the area playing a lot of the better places that time and money keep me away from in season. Have any of you ...

Yup! Haven't decided yet where but I'm going to treat myself to something real nice on turkey day. All the courses should be empty 'cause of all the gluttony going on!

When my son first started swinging a club (age 2) I just let him swing away but by age 5 I had shown him a proper stance and foot position and at that age he preferred the 10 finger baseball style grip. Initially he machine gunned as many balls as he could, as fast as he could, but I slowed him down by having him verbally repeat this mantra before every swing:

My home course has a storage fee that is $210/year. With the cost of carts
if I play 14 rounds of 18 holes I will save money. I average about 60
rounds a year at least, most of those being 18 holes so for me it would pay
off quickly. If I included my wife who is now playing it would only take 7
rounds to pay off so for me it's a great deal. Now I just need the money
for a cart..lol.

Playing once every couple of weeks hardly seems excessive even for someone
with as much on his plate as Obama.

Played a new course for me today, Crooked Tree in Tucson. ( Crooked Tree Golf Course ). Is was a very good course. Fairly flat with a good mix of mid and long length par 4's, some challenging par 3's, and good par 5's. I played the front in 4 over, but blew up on the back to 9 over with two doubles and a triple. Got myself in trouble in the middle of the back and just couldn't seem to overcome it...

Yes, it's good.
One clarification, it was not written by Jones, but by Daryn Hammond. Still it's Jones' method - explained.
