Ak 223
Published (2009-11-25 13:25:00)
Each design / brand of 223 AK has it's own unique magazine so not many magazines interchange between makes. The 223 cartridge is high pressure with a thin rim. The AK is hard on cases and rims and case head separations are more common in 223 AK's than other calibers. The magazine, bolt fit, bolt rails and magazine catch need to be perfect to feed 223 as the diameter on the cases are small and it doesn't take much to cause a jam...

Thanks Carlos. I hesitate to mess with the magazine because I think its the best part of the rifle. The tapco follower is short. It has the potential to nosedive, whereas the original is bombproof. I might keep the thumbhole. I skeletonized it so it looks just like a dragunov stock. Thanks for filling me in on the peep.

Pat, When you shoot again, can you buy some good ammo (US manufacture)? I see you shot Wolf which is known to be of poor accuracy. Golden Tiger is boat tail so even that would be better. Factory supersonic ammo would be more difficult to suppress. The Russians do make armor piercing heavy bullet subsonic 7.62x39 ammunition. I think bullet weight is around 192 grains. Most sound suppressors also suppress flash very well.

You are correct for the MAK-90, but the differences between the Saiga in "sporter" and "non-sporter" guise are more than just de-banning after importation. The sporter Saigas, as shown above, are not convertible to assault-rifle style without a lot of work. Basically, they are two different rifles. To begin with, the sporter Saigas (like the one above) don't have the receiver dimples and that's ...

I got a solution for them. Izmash needs to send over as many as possible at a fixed retail price of $200 each. I will personally vouch to pickup 10 at that price. Flood the market and they will buy your licensed originals that way the knockoffs are less likely to profit. I am willing to bet that Izmash-Russia sees $100 or less per rifle they send over and the distributors RAA and Arsenal...

Does your WASR have a standard pistol grip or does it have a thumb hole stock? If it has a standard pistol grip then it should have enough compliance parts. Are the cheaper than dirt parts made in USA ? If they are imported then your rifle may not have enough compliance parts to use them. If your WASR has a thumb hole stock then most likely it doesn't have US-made compliance parts.

I asked the same question when I fabricated my own pistol grip off laminated wood to match the rest of the furniture. I figured that if I made it here in the US, then it should be considered a US part. To this, many posters agreed.
