New 870 - Magazine Tube Problem
Published (2009-11-27 19:39:00)
I am not sure what the issue is as I never load more then a couple 3" shells for Turkey hunting in mine. I would guess to keep shooting and get the weapon broken in. Also, use a long 3/8" wooden dowl with a pad of steel wool stretched over the end to where it looks like a Q-tip, tape the end of it off to the dowl. Break down the weapon and use that to polish out the mag tube and the tube on the extention. Keep them polished with no...

people have extensions that go past the barrel all the time and they're never damaged from the gases...i doubt the breacher end makes any difference..

Well, after all the domestic chores today, I made it out with the 870. It was getting pretty dark, so I had to enhance the pics a bit. If they seem a little overexposed, that's why. The first 2 rounds were Federal Premium 2 3/4" 00 buck. I shot them to center mass to get a feel for the trigger. Basic Remmy trigger. Not bad, not fantastic, but good. I was hoping for better performance of the Fed Premium. It would get the job done for...

It depends on which crowd you're talking to. I've personally not handled any shotgun stuff from them, but in the AK circle, TAPCO is considered to be a merchant of crap.

I love my SLP Mk I. Other than reliability (which I've only read about...no first-hand experience), a HUGE drawback on the 1100 is the bolt/lifter release that must be overcome each time a shell is loaded. I use my SLP for multi-gun, so that's why I consider it huge.
I love Remingtons, and own three of them. They're just not near as fast to load...dealbreaker for competition.

Just picked up a 7 shot 870 Express yesterday. It had a $329.00 sticker price. With the Remington $30.00 rebate,a Tac Star side saddle, tax and fees, I came away with a nice project gun for under $360.00. I'm happy with that. Now for the reasoning.
I'm looking at a lenghty training course next fall. I'm a training junkie I guess. It may consist of 700 or more rounds of various 12 ga in 5 ...

You're gonna spend $1,300 on a Wilson? $1,300 on an 870 Express, 2.75" chambering, MIM parts, TacStar accessories, internal lock and all?
Have Hans from Vang Comp Systems build you a nice 870 Police Magnum. Tack on a Mesa Tactical 6-round sidesaddle and a 2-round extension tube for $1,600 shipped. For that price you get porting, forcing cone lathing, a dome safety, extra power springs, a ...

OTHG,
Where/how do you store you SG?
How fast can you get to it?
What is your defensive plan?
What is you exit plan?
I would start with answering the above questions and build a training regiment around that.
I believe its best to set up a defensive position and call 911 but there may be situations that call for an exit.
With any empty gun and an empty house, run ...

Not really practical, but still uber coooool, I would love to have something like that, but maybe with a 3 shot magazine instead, and a birds head rear grip.

Good Deal,
J.D. puts out some fine weapons. He is a nice guy and I have learned a lot
from him and his website. I have an 870 Express that I am going to send him
soon to re-barrel, parkerize, and tune up with upgraded parts. I look forward
to seeing your new gun and I will post a report and some pics when I get
mine back also.

OH, you're not ignorant, just stupid. Just kidding, I've had the same issue on a couple of shotguns. And I've scratch some paint in the past.
I release the slide and move about a 1/4 back. Then, holding the muzzle up, grab the barrel and press down while turning the magazine cap. If hand strength doesn't loosen it, try padded pliers or, I use a strap wrench, kinda like one of those ...

I have two Rem 870's, both with 20" barrels....
One, because it came that way. It was a police turn in with a 20" barrel and a +3 extension.
The other, because I wanted a barrel with rifle sights... The cheapest barrel I could get with rifle sights was a 20" barrel. Done deal. Besides, it gets me one more round in the magazine.
