Houserule Balance Question [3.5]
Published (2009-11-25 10:39:00)
Re: Houserule Balance Question [3.5] IMHO, what's good for one class is good for another. Explanation: Don't change the magic system for some classes if you're not changing it for everybody. I used to use the magic system from BESM: The Slayers d20 . I had to use the non-spellcasting variants on the ranger and paladin classes (from CW) in order to "fix" the campaign world, as rangers and paladins do more melee...

Alignment is determined by the DM, yes. Alignment is not determined by my opinion, yes. Alignment is not determined by gods, and you haven't the right to come in, condescendingly claim it is, and shift the goalposts later.

Encounters per day
Published (2009-11-25 17:19:00)
Our combats take a long time, so usually we get none, and on exceptional days we get one. On days where we're actually in a dungeon instead of doing other things, it can be as many as I think 7. Typically, we're fed encounters several CRs above our level (I got a solo encounter CR of 19 when I was level 9) so doing too many combats is generally viewed as excessive. When we have more than 7, it's quick ones with things we can...

We do have an ongoing optimized arena, which I help run. We have a sheet-checking system, neutral GMs and standardized maps. As for "testing your skill," most truly skilled optimizers seek help on the internet. A refusal to do so is, in my eyes, frankly a sign of being a scrub. In short.... It's one monster, albeit a much higher- level one. Use all your dailies on it and you should win.

The SRD says that Turning Undead is considered an attack. Does this mean one can make Attacks of Opportunities with it?

Well, it isn't untyped energy damage. It's just untyped.

My usual group tends to vary wildly. Some days, one. Some...a dozen a more. Me, I vary, but not usually to that extent.
All in all, I'd say we have more encounters per day than usual, because even though our average isn't that far off, we tend to use standard ECL opponents as a starting point, and build upward from there.

The first guy is a hireling, and does not require a character sheet.
Guy two is best as someone not brought with you, because I don't know of any walking dictionaries that don't fight wandering into war zones.
Either way, I wouldn't call either a DMPC, as neither acts as a PC.

"Please don't fly naked" immediately springs to mind.
Also, my Shadowrun group generally gets a kick out of having someone run frantically into the room and excitedly ask, "GUYS, did you know you can hire hackers ?"

Make a character that knows exactly when to fight. An almost-seer, who knows when the time will come he will be able to stand up against the BBEG. Until that time, however, he learns as much as he can about the BBEG, trains as hard as he can, and tries to do as much good as he can without directly provoking the BBEG into a fight that will get you killed. Not fighting someone way stronger than ...

I was considering starting a game with my friend, (3.5), and we were discussing characters. However, the guy just will not shut up about how amazing Warlocks are. Is there a reason?
