Remington 887

What are yalls thoughts on this Remington 887? Seems like a good idea, but to me the slide release is to much like the trigger and when it counts someone could accidentally pull it and release the slide when they want to pull the trigger.I like wood but I also like a gun that is very durable and weather resistenet........I dont know what to think, maybe its just a sad attempt to compete with the benelli novas.

Bench Rest primers?
Published (2009-11-25 20:14:00)
I tried about 20 "normal" primers in my 6mmPPC once. I can't tell much differance in them. Probably just an extra inspection to make sure things like anvils are still attached? They need some excuse to double the price! Still, notice I only use match primers......sigh, got to give my money to somebody.

I don't knock anyone's choice as to what they shoot, or what bullet they choose to use. I will say that for most any game in GA a standard cup and core bullet like the Sierre GameKings, or Core Lokt's etc.. is completely sufficient. I don't feel you need a premium bullet. In my opinion shot placement is the key. I have seen far more animals lost because of bad shots than bullets not performing. Now with that said, for years...

I tend to agree, BUT I think the discussion sometimes is in term of whether premium bullets any real advantage for the average shot on the average Georgia whitetail. For example, I sometimes shoot a .308 and Core-lokts have given me a lot of one shot kills over a long time. I don't see how a dollar a round bullet would do any better.

yes it's fun but is it cheaper... depends i would say that you can get a better quality shell for a given $ but you can't compete with the cheaper "dove" load price wise

I like the QDW style rings also. On the first picture note the bright bar that fits into the base slot. There are some rings out there that don't have that bar, but use a single pin. Avoid those, they do not hold zero and can actually tear up a base.

I'm not an expert, but from what I understand they just have higher standards for consistency in the quality, because consistency is the name of the game for competition shooting.

I shoot the Nosler 165gr AccuBond in my 30-06. I roll my own ammo and have found this bullet to be better than the regular ballistic-tips. I shot a big doe at 90 yards ,, shoulder shot,, and this round did-not explode and it expanded and gave a nice baseball size exit wound. It shoots sub zero @ 100yrds thru my custom Rem700.

your remington 308 will shoot as good as any rifle money can buy, the only way you could get it more accurate is reload, but at those kind of distances wind will play with it more than anything..i love a 308 i got several of em, try the fed premium 165 sierra btsp, awesome bullet....

While neither of these is a big caliber gun I prefer the 300. It gives you a much larger selection of bullet weights to choose from with better energy figures. Most of the .300's I've had were great shooters.

I have a Model 7 and will be using Win Power Points that I hand load. I am currently using Win Power Points in my 30 06 and have killed deer from 25yds to 167yds with one shot drop in their track. The 308 round is very close to the 30 06 round in speed. I have one power point bullet that was recovered from a deer just inside the skin on the exit side that measured .77in. You will be ...

Yeah. Blued steel rusts very easily and quickly. You have to wipe them down immediately after use, especially in damp conditions, and keep a light film of oil on the surface. The toolbox of a truck isn't exactly ideal conditions. I'd wipe it down real good with some oil and let it sit for a bit, then take an oily cloth and wipe as much of the rust off as possible, leaving a light coat for ...
