High Brass VS Low Brass

thinking of restoring. will it...

Please bear with me for this long winded note - might help clarify a few things if you can bear with me. This is what I do for a living. Took a lot of eduction and approvals through museums, collectors, and associations to get to this point. They do send things here for me to do exactly that. Here is one of the few I am allowed to talk about (from my website): http://riflerestorer.com/gallery/drag.htm It doesn't take someone with my level...

Whats the difference?

OK this should be simple. What is the difference in a remington model 7, and a remington 700 short action?

rebarrle????
Published (2009-11-28 05:50:00)
You can rebarrel it for any cartridge that has the magnum Case head. (.532 diameter) That will include most of the weatherby mags, the old 264, 7mm, 300, 338, the H&H mags, even the short mags. You can even go to the ultra mags and the 7mmSTW. The best thing is to get you a reloading manual and look at the case drawings and you can find the different cartridges you could choose from as well read about the specs on them.

rebarrle????

The possible choices have been covered, but I'll throw this out: Unless you are going with an unusual chambering (.264 win mag, 375 ruger, 257 weatherby etc) you'll probably be better off to just buy a 700 in the caliber you want and sell your rifle. Weagle

I have not tried the 60gr subs, but have an old 10/22 that I bought new back in the early 70's that will shoot one hole 10 shot groups that you can cover with a dime at 50 yards. I use CCI Mini Mags and Rem Golden Bullets.
I have a custom 10/22 with a bull barrel, but have not tested it yet.
If you get good ammo that is standard vel. you can use the 1/16 with good results.

I dont know, but I can tell you when I switch bettween winchester and remington corelokt in the same grain, my poi changes by about 4''.
If I have the winchester sighted in dead on,when I shoot the remington its always roughly 2''high and 2''right.Might just be my rifle but thats a pretty big difference to me.Your results may vary.

well comparing the 2 rounds side by side is unfair considering the 17hmr is a 22 magnum necked down to .17 diameter. a fair comparison would be the 17mach 2 which is a 22lr necked down to .17..... as far as the 22lr vs 17hmr , the hmr has it beat hands down.

Restoration of antique or classic collectable firearms can drop the values by 50% or more. Even when it is done very well.
Do you want to sell it, or do you want to use it? That is what I would ask myself.
Sell? No.
Use? By all means yes! And enjoy the process, enjoy the firearm and pass it down to your kids! It will have a heritage and a special story forever!

I have one and love it. I like it even more because I paid less than half the price of a SBE. I've also never had a problem with light target loads, unlike some of my friends trying to kill doves with a single shot SBE.
Now after having said that... Are you positive that it is the 912 that they have on sale? The reason I ask is that the 912 hasn't been made in several (4-5, maybe more) years...

I tend to agree,
BUT
I think the discussion sometimes is in term of whether premium bullets any real advantage for the average shot on the average Georgia whitetail.
For example, I sometimes shoot a .308 and Core-lokts have given me a lot of one shot kills over a long time. I don't see how a dollar a round bullet would do any better.

I shoot the Nosler 165gr AccuBond in my 30-06. I roll my own ammo and have found this bullet to be better than the regular ballistic-tips. I shot a big doe at 90 yards ,, shoulder shot,, and this round did-not explode and it expanded and gave a nice baseball size exit wound. It shoots sub zero @ 100yrds thru my custom Rem700.

While neither of these is a big caliber gun I prefer the 300. It gives you a much larger selection of bullet weights to choose from with better energy figures. Most of the .300's I've had were great shooters.

Yeah. Blued steel rusts very easily and quickly. You have to wipe them down immediately after use, especially in damp conditions, and keep a light film of oil on the surface. The toolbox of a truck isn't exactly ideal conditions.
I'd wipe it down real good with some oil and let it sit for a bit, then take an oily cloth and wipe as much of the rust off as possible, leaving a light coat for ...

The first one is probably a GI 30-06 from the St. Louis Ordnance plant that was manufactured in 1943.
The second is a piece of 25-20 brass. Remington is the maker. Here is some info on the 25-20.
