I have seen spikes rub trees as big as your arm,and big bucks rub saplings the size of your finger. As a general rule little deer probably rub smaller trees, but sometimes it is just whatever he is in the mood for.

If I find someone stealing my crap, they will be immediately mistaken for a buck!..... Reminds me of a sign that I see on one of the roads I drive on travelling to my lease... There's a sign on the side of an old building that reads "If I catch you, I will kill you."

Yeah but you will be hard pressed to catch a mature buck rubbing a tree durring the daylight hours. You should also not hunt right on top of scrapes and rubs. Bucks will scent check them from down wind. I normaly hunt about 100 yards down wind of scrapes and see bucks cruising these areas. I never see them working the scrapes and rublines.

Need Some Help on Question
Published (2008-11-19 20:46:00)
Great tips already. Obviously: go in after a rain, if no rain: follow a creek, if no creek: find a gulley / wet weather creek, if none: follwo agame trail or other somewhat open path. Go tree to tree, slowly and don't step on sticks. The CRACK can travel MUCH farther than the shuffle of leaves. If you hvae to go in, "stagger and stop" on the way in. That means don't walk in like a human: stepping left, right, left, right...

My daughter got her first deer this evening hunting with me. I couldn't have been more proud. She dropped him with one shot and with a 300 wthy. There were three does in the food plot and he came running in to them. After we field dressed him and took it to the processor she said he found the wrong female today.I think she is hooked.

Alright I redeemed my miss from earlier in the year. And I gotta say this was probably my toughest kill ever. Which is evident by the story! I was in a Double Bull Blind and he appeared on my right side and I'm right handed. I saw his head in the weeds and couldn't tell what it was and when I put the Binos up on him and saw his tine length, but could only see his head, I had to try. I couldn't ...

There have been several threads and posts related to this recently. Many of us are seeing less deer in some areas that formerly offered more deer sightings. Is it simply that there are less deer ? Have they become more nocturnal than they used to be? Could it be the invasion and population explosion of the coyote? Could it be the invasion of the armadillo? Is is global warming?...

Just got in from hunting at Chatt. Bend and was told by Jerry, the man that has the tractor for sale and drives the golf cart, that a hunter shot a COUGAR in Heard Co. in the last few days. Don't know the details involved, but seems the hunter shot the COUGAR as it circled around the tree he was in. After shooting the COUGAR the hunter called DNR to report it and the DNR guy over Westpoint ...

Over the weekend my brother killed a really old buck but it was only a spike. It was during the last few minutes of legal light and he thought it was just a really big doe. The deer had some graying and virtually has no teeth. Did this deer just have bad genetics or poor food quality or do really old buck's antlers begin to regress after peak maturity? I will try to get a picture up soon.

I'm sure everyone would like a wall hanger, but is there anyone here who's goal is not to trophy hunt?By that I mean you will shoot any buck that is legal, and be satisfied when you are tagged out. I'm not talking about the guys who are not willing to mark a single buck tag unless he is "the one"...
