2000 Ford ranger question
Published (2009-12-21 23:22:00)
I was a Ford tech for years and own a 99 Ranger 4x4 with the 3.0L, 5R55 auto trans and 145K miles. The 3.0L is more reliable, but has way less power than the 4.0L. Don't get me wrong, the 4.0L is a good motor too. They are excellent trucks, but a vehicle is only as good as the maintenance put into it. Change oil on time, coolant every30K, have trans serviced every 30K. NOTE: changing the filter inside the trans pan is useless, a flush at...

i got some on ebay and they held up pretty well. i only put the laws on it 4 times total though--any only went in mud once with it. the only abuse i put on them was riding wheelies on the highway and setting it down on the fly. they never bent though

Keep a close eye on Craigslist. The V-bottom boats show up pretty regularly and aren't too expensive. Now is a good time to start looking. I'd look for one that is bare, then outfit it the way that you want. Fiberglass is heavier than alum., but IMO the fiberglass is easier to modify. I follow the routine you propose -- a 10 hp gas motor that I take on and off as needed. Only knock is that it is a 4 cycle Honda, and about 20 lbs....

I have a 14' fiberglass boat that sounds similar to what you are asking for. It has a 15hp motor and I would not want anything less. It will plane just fine with 1 person or me plus my daughter. However, if I get another man in there it takes much more to get up on plane. The 10hp you are talking about might not be enough if you fish with someone else regularly.

I never stick the nozzle all the way in my gas tanks. My cougar had an anti-siphon and if you did it'll click off every time. Mustang was the same way. I put it in most of the way, say 3/4 and then back out 1/2 when it starts getting fuller...

Looks nice, but I personally hate seeing 20 inch+ ghetto wheels on a 4x4. Large wheels means less tire and that means almost zero tire flex.....which equates to extremely poor off road performance. Great for crusing town though!

I have a 99 r/t and had this issue before, needs a rebuild or a new transmission, there was one time where the shifter linkage was messed up and it was getting stuck between drive and nuetral but the truck would barely move.

I had one for a year or two. Everytime I took it out on the water I wanted to undo the transom clamps and drop the motor into the lake. The concept is good but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. A small 90 degree aircooled V-twin capable of 6000 rpm would make a cool little 10 to 15 hp motor. A relatively large single cylinder, low rpm lawnmower motor makes a poor outboard powerplant....
