No one ever said it wasn't a problem influenced from outside of TelstraClear. And this didn't imply a "wider discussion" was needed. At some point a *possible* cause was identified - this was only in the last week or so. Before that people were complaining only. Note that I only joined the complaints in the only week and while I am not excluding a possible cause outside TelstraClear, I want TelstraClear to act on my behalf...

ohpersven: Either way, I doubt anyone would voice their 'opinion' about the matter as it may be career limiting.... Got it in one. Any opinions expressed on Geekzone are my own, and not of my employer.

I tried Techie's suggestion of using OpenDNS (but only for one machine) and YT seems to run much faster for me. Still stops and starts on HD video but SD plays fine. And Facebook also works fine (though I don't use it that much) so I think I will keep this setting on this machine until I discover other problems.

@Jmacg: Other users with multiple ISP's have confirmed TCL YouTube streaming performance is worse. @Technies response proves that TCL-specific DNS settings do affect performance. @Technie: Thanks for your post. I tested the alternative DNS settings & found YouTube improved (at times by a lot, at other times by a little). As Freitasm and yourself mentioned above, Facebook goes from perfect, to barely operational when using the...

The good news is that there appears to be some action on the DVB-C MUXs on the live cable network that will carry the HD programming. I'm not seeing any channels popping up yet (unless the symbol rate is different to the existing channels) but am seeing a carrier. Biddle Corp is powered by VFX trixbox Faktortel GB-PVR

freitasm: Seriously though it seems TCL has a problem of not providing good connectivity to one of the most consumed services on the Internet, and while Google seems to want a lot of "goodwill" there too, it's still up to the provider to make it happen. I think TCL is gearing up themselves to be the first in a "net neutrality" debate in New Zealand. I've been thinking about your comment for the last few days and...

I've never held a particular torch for TCL and have always been amazed at their repeated successes in ISP user satisfaction surveys - to the extent that I've even wondered if they've found a way to skew the polls. For a long time, while they were getting such good publicity, I was experiencing short periods where I couldn't connect with TCL, or for periods during an evening I would lose my connection, then get it back a...

Screeb: Alright, thanks, I can rule out routes I guess, You've only tested from you to youtube but not back. Sometimes the routing is asymmetric and will follow a slightly different path back. You'll need to use a 'looking glass' or routeviews site to test this. these should be helpfull. http://www.routeviews.org/ login to a server by going to say: telnet route-views.routeviews....

Yes, it will work out how many days were used for each plan and the usage etc It's better to let it change at the end of the cycle however, as mid-cycle changes can cause the data transfer to drop off.

90% of the connections I've seen have been typical DSL faults and nothing to do with the new network. Yes there are issues when the connection is dropping it can take awhile to be re-established or sometimes be locked out for a lengthy period(this can be fixed, but if the root problem is not fixed, it will re-occur and often). But the problem is rarely directly related to the equipment...
