Broadband rip off....

Population density, economies of scale & purchasing power, geographical location... A small ISP in NZ might have something like 20k subscribers, a small ISP in AU might have something like 200k subscribers, a small ISP in the UK might have 2 million subscribers.

Yes, there are always people who will try to take a good thing too far. I believe that the cap was for such things as downloading full length feature films one after another, as some did (illegally) 24/7. Anyway, thank you all for the input, and yes I suppose it is a case of supply and demand here, pretty much a numbers game. And I would guess a good analogy would be to put a telephone line to the North Pole, possible yes, but boy calls from...

johnr: Yer its fine any issues? Did the download stop? Sorry John I beg to differ, my understanding was that you were improving HSPA speed around the country however I have not noticed any real change. I have plugged in my iphone (only a 3.6 device and no HSUPA) on XT to my laptop and have done the same tests as above they are over 3 times faster than vodafone - my question is really are we going to see any decent speeds...

Awesome, very useful! Thanks lokeynz! I'll pass that info on tonight & keep you posted with any updates. I'll let you know if telecom want any more details. So just to confirm, on your lines, the AM300 which was going slow on Snap, goes fast on Telecom?

I've swapped the AM300s around this morning and taken screenshots of sync rates before and after, definitely seems to be a bit of difference between the 2 as far as sync rates go but it does still show the slow upstream following the non-telecom connection http://www.geekzone.co.nz/imagessubs/7f05d44fbfea70104dba49e59f363b90.jpg

Britguy: ...and as for "Grass is greener, air is cleaner, food tastes better and there are less people than most western countries." whats all that about? Our grass is brown/scorched with the ozone problem, the best food gets exported, and yes, there are so few people, hence one of the reasons we pay dearly for 'stuff'. NZ has a lot to offfer, but there are also many things that could be improved, and...

I would also be interested in dropouts. Since it is mobile broadband if you can drive (or for me take bus to work) from a to b and if your data drops.
If I was made of money and didn't mind burning prepaid mobile data I would be happy to do this in Wellington also.
Plus I would test with a telecom CDMA (old network) and for good measure test 2degrees as well.

The new Telecom ISAMs are suited to modems that use Broadcom chipsets (such as the Dynalink) if you want least hassles then use them. The modems supplied by Telecom (Thompsons) are Broadcom based. TP-Link, DSE, and other brands also sport Broadcom chipsets and at very reasonable prices. Alcatel (who make the ISAM) currently have about 70% of the worlds DSL ports, so its wise to go ...

Hi Cully, its more a matter of the alarm being removed from the line, not just turned off. Also the alarm will seize the and drop it from passing onto the remainder of the house. The only real workable solution is to install a central splitter. Cheers Cyril
