Motherboard/CPU upgrade -...
Published (2009-12-04 15:03:00)
The other day I upgraded my CPU and video card. Looking at my motherboard I kind of realized I am limited to how fast I can get my PC due to my current motherboard. I am on tigerdirect.com ( need to order from them ) at their motherboard and CPU combos. What would you guys recommend for a motherboard/cpu combo? I want to keep the price under #200.00 please. THe main use for this PC is flight sim and every day internet surfing.

Awesome! Where did you find the amp rating for that card in SLI anyway?

ROFL. you have the exact same laptop as me and i'm building a computer for 600. I would put in another 300 dollars and get a much better computer or buy a new laptop. Upgrading a old laptop is a bad idea. First this graphics card for a desktop is worth 30 dollars... I'm only a teen, but paying 180 dollars for this graphics card is ridiculous. My graphics card is 160 dollars and is much better than this one. Actually you probably...

What PSU is it, 150W? I only just noticed that. It definitely won't be powerful enough. Can you actually link to the parts you are thinking?

Some installation help.

1) You don't. The board will sort it out. 2) Secure enough so it doesn't fall off. Don't overtighten. 3) Paste that comes with a third part heatsink is usually plentiful and then some more. Selling it without enough paste is kind of like selling a car without any doors. If in doubt, read the instructions that came with the cooler.

Just a recommendation, but for optical drives, look at buying two WD Caviar 500GB drives, and configuring them in RAID 0. Ultra high capacity and bit rate, but low in price. For graphics, I'd look towards Radeon. Right now, Radeon cards are both faster AND cheaper than nVidia (and I'm a nVidia fan, mind you). The 5750 and above are all great choices, and the 5970 is beyond insanity, with 2GB onboard. When it comes to cases, think...

Graphics are not upgradable on a laptop. The memory probably will be, the CPU could be if you really wanted to (though for what it's worth it probably isn't worth doing) and upgrading the board isn't possible as everything is unique to it and that chassis.

Hi! Yes new dual core or quad core cpu's would be alot faster compare to P4.For video editing and photoshop quad core would be a better option especially Intel cpu's.

I think you are talking about two different things here. The memory is the physical memory and usually comes in 64,128,256,512 or 1 gig The hard drive is probably most likely what you are describing as the 20 gig. Can we take a look and see if we can clear it out some for you?

Not a good ideal. The rear fans in your case would be the exhaust fans to blow the hot air out. With your current setup you are bringing in air fine but the only fan exhausting is in your pSU which in most cases will not move enough hot air out of the system. In the case of the front fan is it possible to remove the HD mounting cage to get to the front ...

Go to HERE and run the Crucial online scanner. This will give you the exact memory configuration for your system. You do not have to buy the memory from there, but write down the information and if you need assistance in purchasing the upgrade memory GTG can assist with suggestions also.

Check to make sure your memory is seated correctly. You may also need to check and make sure you have no standoffs in any place beside under the holes in the mobo. If there are they could short your board out.

I need a good motherboard that will support my following specs. I did have a previous post about graphics cards, but i read the reviews on Newegg that a lot of people have been having problems with my motherboard. Also, it seems to be more than it should be. MY motherboard is the ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard. I ...

After taking the other panel off (behind the the mobo) there is an X plate that can be removed but I really don't want to take everything out, so I am hoping I can just use the original fan and heatsync.

Whats wrong with your GTX 260? That should put you on high if not max settings for most games out. You should be able put a GTX 295 in there. The only question we would have is whats your budget and whats the model number of your power supply. (we need to see the specs to see if you power supply can handle a monster card/ SLI options) Is your dual core ...

Holiday times are supposedly the best time for buying. I'm looking for a system that gets the job done. I've gone through computer builds online many ...

Should all work together just fine. I'm surprised to see an adjustable cage and cable management in a tower for such a low price too. Rough price total seems to be about $535. If you'd like to overclock a good bit, and don't mind having push to almost an exact $600, an Asetek liquid-cooler can e had new for just under $60. Keep in mind though, your ...

Replacing your motherboard is just that simple! Especially considering most motherboard's come with CMOS! Just ensure that all the components you need to keep are compatible with that motherboard. Weather of not to upgrade is a different question. It depends on what you do. One of my favorite machines is actually a P4 (2.4GHz) with only 768MB of RAM. ...
