How did you check the power supply? Here's my canned text on testing PSUs: To properly and conclusively test a power supply unit (PSU), it must be tested under various realistic "loads" then analyzed for excessive ripple and other anomalies. This is done by a qualified technician using an oscilloscope or power analyzer - sophisticated (and expensive) electronic test equipment requiring special training to operate, and a...

Go HERE and download the Seagate Acronis DiskWizard... scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "I Accept". Save the app to your desktop and launch it once it completes the download. Once it launches, you will have the option to download the User Guide, so do so. Then install the program on the computer you're using right now. Note that you may need to connect the Seagate via your adapter to the computer...

Have you tried anything else in that outlet to make sure it is actually turned on? Does the fan on the cpu stay on when the power is turned on?

Test it for what? At best, all you could do is make sure there were voltages present but without a schematic (which I am 100% sure you don't have), you would not know where to check or what to check for, or if any voltage found is correct. But beyond that, sticking highly conductive, sharp metal probes into the heart of a computer is dangerous as it would...

Welcome, Just a shot in the dark here but they wiped the computer and gave it back WOW that is bad business. Anyway, look in the bios settings...I do not know what MB it has but the bios may be set to default with SATA disables. Bearing in mind the most strenuous part of being a PSU is the initial power-up sequence from a cold start, and hard drives suck up most of this getting started, it's perfectly possible the PSU now can't provide enough juice to get everything going. Those HP ones tend to be Bestec with low wattage output, but it's worth replacing just by virtue of the ...

Much to the surprise of many, we are not mind readers. We cannot even guess if this is a laptop or PC. If Windows 95, XP, Vista, MacOS or Linux. If the problem just started happening, or if it has been occurring for a long time. So I am going to guess this is XP and suggest you turn off automatic reboot so the BSOD will remain displayed. Then, maybe, you can...

QUOTE Is this a bit overkill on the PSU? Yes. Although it does not hurt anything to have way more power than you need (except your wallet), there is no advantage to have so much extra either. Some overhead is good, but not tons more. See my canned text below for sizing and choosing the correct PSU. QUOTE Think just air cooling via fans is ...
