my dell inspiron 6400 wont start up

Hold down the Power button to turn it off, then turn it on with the Dell Media Direct button. It's supposed to be used to turn on Dell Media Direct without booting into your OS, but it may be inverted. Post back a reply if this resolves the situation.

QUOTE (diggeryo @ Dec 2 2009, 04:46 PM) I used to use Everest; however, it started giving me problems some years ago. Since then, I've used this: http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php Ahh, I like that one much better. It shows my video card temp which is what I wanted as well. Did you have an active anti-virus? Were you a regular user of your computer? Do other people have access to your computer, or are you the only one? Or was it that one...

Please download Avast from my signature below. Please make sure you do the registration as it is good for a year or more. When it is due simply just ...

If the machines are not on the internet full stop, you don't need any anti-virus on them at all. As and when they do go on the Internet, any decent anti-virus should automatically update on its own when an Internet connection is found. You shouldn't even need to be doing manual updates. Go into Device Manager and make sure that your laptop does in fact have this. If it does, it will show there. Try updating the driver when you find the device. If this doesn't work, uninstall the hardware then search for new hardware after the uninstall is complete. This will re-install the hardware and hopefully fix the problem. Keep us posted....

um, I'm not sure how to help, (new to this) but do you have Internet Explorer? Microsoft Update site only works with their own web browser. Also, if you had a virus lately, it may have changed your host files. Did you have any viruses or other malware lately?
