btw, here's a rough first draft of a history. care to give some comments? Spoiler: One day, in the early 2009, when Rodney McKay was skipping happily through the virtual, green, and quite imaginary fields of the Atlatis database, he stumbled upon the blueprints of an Ancient plasmaweapon. The projects was unfinished, and had been abandoned when the war with the wraith started due to the fact that the council deemed it an unnecessary...

Well, the ship had just recently crash landed, give it some credit for even making it to Earth. But it was lucky it didn't get hit by anything before then.

since the Ancients inhabited MW for a million year at least and had something similar to a galactic empire, don't you think that they updated the gate system, software and hardware during that time ? You could see : - Destiny's gate as v1.0 or up to v1.9, if it received updates while the Ancients were still there. - MW gate as v5.0 - Pegasus gate as v100.0 (they had millions of years to improve the original design) and the reason...

Armor? You're talking about building armor for a space ship? You're over simplifying it and i'll leave it at that.
But seriously I highly doubt we have anything to worry about with Virgin Galactic. Between share holders, profit margins and everything else it's in their best interests to ensure nothing goes boom.

oversimplification is making these statements unintelligible.
the first statement should actually be both the object and the ground accelerate toward each other (they both experience equal force in opposite directions). since the Earth is massive however its acceleration is negligible.
the second statement is too obscure to understand what hes talking about, entropy or determinism...

in i believe BAMSR, a drone hits the gate and the gate can not be re-dialled.
these gates might simply be of inferior quality? as i said, they're meant for exploration. not to satisfy the local population

i think the amount to be beamed would be directly proportional to the amount of amount of energy used to beam the object, so it might be possible to use the beam tech to mine but you have to think about the energy it has to use in order to beam large amounts of material.
who knows, the amount of energy might grow exponentially with increasing amounts of target material.
