T'was the night before Christmas and all through the pond, not a creature was stirring not even the swan. The tadpoles all tucked in their mossy green beds, while visions of algae buds danced in their heads... .... saying to all, Have a toadally awesome Christmas and a ribitting New Year!" ~ jan ------------ Zone 7a, SE Washington State Ponds: www.jjspond.us

It has been unusually mild this year, but I do have a 500 watt heater in the pond. I dont think koi pox ever goes away. I have one with a good dose on his tail. It doesnt seem to change with water temp. There seems to be an individual susceptibility because none of my other fish have been infected. This week's light snow enabled me to see thousands of little birdy footprints around the hole in the ice. Some squirrel prints in there too. I was out of town when it got really cold so had to have Dear Daughter rummage around in the shed and give her instructions over phone. kathy :-)

We just had our first snow for the season and had our first freezes. The temperature got down to 31 degrees. That seems to be pretty warm for you Jan! The water hyacinths have died back and Jim will put the plastic sheet over them as a minimal green house. Next year, they will all wake up again. Phyllis

There was a decapitated goldfish, about the size of my hand, laying on the bank of the pond, with the head nearby, both underneath the bird netting I'd placed over the pond to keep out leaves. Doug, Just curious, why are you wanting a pump with less than half the capacity of the one you currently use? (1267 gph vs. 3,000 gph) If the larger size pump was properly sized for your pond then you'll experience problems using the smaller pump. I believe that you can get an OASE Nautilus 1200 gph pump that uses a comparable amount of electricity and it will come with a five ...
