Quote: JonCole : As if Valve heard my video card's cry, Crysis Maximum Edition is the weekend deal on Steam. Once I'm done downloading, I'm curious to see how it'll run. Do tell! I'm interested to hear. I thought my rig was pretty hardcore, but Crysis brought it to its knees. What proc have you got?

I just came from the movies by the way. It was a twofer, by which I mean that I paid for a single ticket, but just snuck into another movie when the first one was done. That was the first time I ever did something like that. The movie I paid for was This Is It, which I was suckered into believing would be halfway decent. But it was tremendously boring and failboat. Even through an ironic Michael Jackson-is-crazy lens, it doesn't offer...

I second most of the ones mentioned already, but especially Arrested Development , as surprisingly few people seem to have seen it. Not mentioned already, from the list: The Office (both of them, but the UK one particularly) Dexter Flight of the Concords It's a pretty good list, although not much animation (where's South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken)? How I Met Your Mother is... watchable. If you can stand to watch...

Me again. If you're after something Electronically uplifting/pulse-raising, Thomas Summer is consistently turning out embarassingly good mixes at the moment. I've just finished listening to his 'Day One' set and it's superb--download it and give it a try for a good taster.

Quote: Rawru : From what I've heard Precious is actually a confidence booster? Sort of? It's about someone who's been crapped on by life but is an amazing person. A select few people notice this and try to get her to be... victorious? I cant think of the right word. So, dark and 'mature' in a lot of ways, but also courageous and uplifting? I haven't seen it so I guess I cant say, thats just what I picked up from...

Quote: Scrobbs : So what is the point behind Precious? To clarify a little, I know of people things like this have happened to in real life (lot of friends who work in mental health in Leeds), with no happy ending etc. - life just carries on, leaving them a mental ruin. I have very little desire to see a film in which it happens. I get the feeling, from Ebert's review, that it's not going to happen. I don't know. I'll tell...

I know what he looks like, it's just this guy really looked like him but with a beard. I know Kieron has flirted with beardry before, but I wasn't sure if he has one at the moment. So I got TP to go check for me

The Jason Scott Sabbatical

Jason Scott can be a bit of a blowhard at times, but he does have good insight into old BBS and network history. He had a presentation recently about low-fi porn, ANSI, Atari, BBS stuff, that was kinda interesting and amusing.

Ahahahaaha I hadn't thought of that. An underwater city... on the moon! A moon city... underwater! Or embedded in ice at least (actually embedded in ice would also be a good Bioshock 3 or 4).
This is pretty cool news anyway.

I didn't know internet historians existed, but that's really cool. It makes perfect sense that they would exist. I'm going to look into this guy.

I have this on Xbox so haven't played it on PC but I think Resident Evil 5 has the best graphics out of any game this generation, so I think that'd be a great one to try if you don't already have it for consoles. I don't really have a game that I continually go back to on PC though, recently at least, as there is just so much to play I don't have time to both play everything I want to play and ...

Idle thumbs London meet!
Since this thing seems to be happening I decided to create a separate thread for this meet up of thumbs.
As far as I can gather the following dates would work for most people:
- Friday 9 Oct.
- Saturday 10 Oct.
- Sunday 11 Oct.
I don't know any cool places in London so the exact place and time is up ...

I thought a thread like this existed but no one replied to it and got lost in the backlog.
I'm currently reading a comic by Grant Morrisohn. The Invisibles: Say You Want A Revolution . I've found it to be rather interesting and unique. I get a vibe of A Clockwork Orange meets the Matrix meets the hotel scenes of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.
The book I put down because of the comic ...

I apologize for seeming really opportunistic, but I think you'd do pretty good checking out a website I write for called CastMedium , where we do weekly recaps of lots of video game podcasts.
If I had to make a few quick recommendations, I'd say you should definitely check out the Giant Bombcast, Drunken Gamers Radio and A Life Well Wasted, which are some of my favorites among Idle ...

For me, I had a great trip to Glasgow and our new couches arrived today. Of the two they're replacing, one of them was older than me and the other was bought more than a decade ago, so I suppose we were due an upgrade

Beyond the deepwoods (sequels as well)
I cannot think of anything else off my head, other than the obvious: Asterix, Goosebumps, Famous five, Harry Potter, and a load of graphic novels.
