Only 3 things I know of that will cause Black Deposits in a water system like this; 1) Silver 2) Copper 3) Bacteria / mold

Thanks gents for that valuable input. I will go with a -3 line but will just drill a 2mm hole in the expansion tank where the adaptor bung is welded on. I also will vent from my radiatior with a -3 line into about the lower Third of my expansion tank. This way the line still run upwards all the time and can purge the air out, but in the cool down stage it doesn´t suck air back into the radiator. TOM

black magic?

Saw the inside of a motor once that had similar deposits and I think it may have been in a fire or had gotten rather hot! Is the material tactile or rock hard?

Fuel Cells

Yes, there are some spectacular photos of original GT40s catching fire when the fuel geysered out of the caps- sometimes even without an accident. The tanks fill very quickly through those big caps and funnels- they also evidently empty right back up the same way very quickly, too.

I will clean the block and head tomorrow so...

I came across this article comparing SLA batteries: Stealth 316 - Dyna-Batt Battery Pretty comprehensive descriptions!

Fuel Cells

Has anyone had any luck retrofitting their GT with ATL or Fuel Safe fuel cells for safety? (custom sized or off the shelf). I'd be interested in hearing about the ins/outs - one of my big concerns is frontal impacts and the resulting geiser of fuel that comes out of the fuel cap/neck.

I use an Aeromotive 10 micron between the pump and injectors. Replaceable element. You put in AN male adapters of your size choice. Quality stuff. Summit either has or can get them. See it at Aeromotive Inc. - High-Performance Fuel Systems & Fuel Pumps

i have similar questions in my post here Toms RCR 40 Trackracer
My fill line ( or expansion line) from the expansion tank feeds into 1 of the 5/8 connections on the suction side of the water pump.
Concerning the presusse my understanding is still, that in a closed system with a given pressure this pressure is the same everywhere in the system.
The only thing i could think of that ...

Tom that is a simple waterjet cut part. I would just take the dimensions of the OD of the coil and that picture to a waterjet shop, tell him to cut you one out of 6061. If you would like I could draw the file and send to you for them to cut. Someone will have to mill the holes for you.

And Ron or Randy, perhaps this thread should be moved to a tech specific forum?
