Interesting Andrew.... Never been north of 45 degrees on a SBC. What type of induction (Carb / EFI / Port / TBI etc?) You can do a lot to reduce detonation by mixture cooling but at a cost of power.. SBF's have a more efficient cylinder head / port layout than SBCs in my opinion. That's why Ford's require so much less timing...

valve cover designs for GT40...

the Ansen spacers? they were about eighty or ninety bucks, from Mustangs Unlimited ( Mustangs Unlimited - The Premier Source for Mustang, Shelby and Cougar Parts and Accessories ). I still have to order the valve covers themselves, which are a stock item. Ansen makes other stuff, but it is all the theme-park kind of stuff I am trying to get away from using. Workmanship is nice, though.

This is for the FE powered MKII & MKIV cars, but being colour coded help you follow where they go.

You know, Ron, it's been so long ago that this issue was discussed that I had just plain forgotten about the differences between European and American octane ratings...thanks for pointing this out! Doug

91 octane, 10 to 1 CR, 302, 280 duration, 550 lift Hyd roller, current aftermarket Alum heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, Holley 750 DP, 36 degrees total advance all in @ 2500, Mechanical secondaries and advance, 6300 rev limit, free breathing exhaust. The advice I got from an engine builder was not to run more than 10:1 for normal 95 octane fuel. But you can run up to 11.5:1 on 97/100 octane.
Don't know if its true but I took his advice.

Hi Urs, for the GTD we've fitted an alloy Roush 427IR to, the chosen drysump solution was supplied by Aviaid as we have had good results previously with their kit. Pump & pan both seem to fit ok.
It's in the car now so not too easy to get measurements from but perhaps the pics will help.

I have the same motor and same issue. I resolved it by using ss saftey wire attached so I can feed thru a drilled hole in the dip stick finger loop. If I forget to attach the wire it blows out and oil all over every time.
