A lot depends on the mileage on the motor, etc. However, it may well be the valve seals.

I would suggest the FelPro Viton seals. Using them on both the intake and exhaust is up to you. I would also suggest changing the valve springs at the same time. Use

Can you give some history of the car? (Mileage, modifications, etc.)
Often, if one of these cars starts to backfire, it is a sign that the cam has a lobe that is being rounded down. Given that zinc is being put in oil is lesser amounts, older (yes, these cars are 22+ years
old) cars need to have a ZDDP additive added to the oil otherwise cam failure will result.
The question is, is it ...

What's wrong with your current setup? If there's
nothing wrong with your oil pressure then that's a wasted $450 IMO. Don't go chasing higher oil psi just for the sake of doing it. Our cars will run just fine on what some would consider obscenely low oil psi. I can attest to that fact.
I don't see that you're running alky. Use that $450 and put that towards an alky system. Now THAT ...

10w30 is what it says right under the hood...
The PF52 is larger than stock; a nice upgrade.

Should be fine ...
Looked it up at:
http://www.gnttype.org/general/v6hist.html
and it appears to be a generic Buick 4.1 from 1980-84 from a RWD platoform.

Take a look on our site for porting templates from the
PowerSource book. I think we have them ...
As far as springs, make sure you measure the installed height after the head work. It can affect the spring rates. Shim as necessary to get the proper installed height.
Comp Cams 980s are safe choice. If the cam you choose is a bit more aggressive, the LT1 springs work (see the part #s ...

I've moved this since the issues would be no different for 84/85 or 86/87/89.
Will the car be road raced, or is there some other reason that a
dry sump system is of interest?
I don't think pans and such are commercially available for dry sumping a production block, so those might be custom pieces. (i.e. $$$)

That is a good question... I did some research and that is a 1980 to 1982 Cad V6, carburated motor... I would bet the
lower end is not heavy enough to take some good boost... Maybe some else here has done some research on it... Tom G.
Found this chart http://www.gnttype.org/general/v6hist.html Look at the bottom, your block number is there, but I think you would have to have pistons for a...

If it's clacking it's probably one or more of the following: Incorrect length push rods
Cheap/wrong lifters
Oil gallery plugged (or cam plug missing/leaking/loose on lifter gallery)
Incorrect preload on the lifters (i.e. too much collapsing the lifter OR too little allowing things to "bounce")
Incorrect valve spring pressures
If they are
roller rockers, are they clearanced (either by ...

Those look like N/A gaskets. Hot Air gaskets were steel ... I think
RJC
Racing sells them.
