Has anyone used a cad. 4.1 #25506484 block in place of a 3.8 109 good or bad? thanks John

Should be fine ... Looked it up at: http://www.gnttype.org/general/v6hist.html and it appears to be a generic Buick 4.1 from 1980-84 from a RWD platoform.

4.1 block #
Published (2009-11-03 16:30:00)
That is a good question... I did some research and that is a 1980 to 1982 Cad V6, carburated motor... I would bet the lower end is not heavy enough to take some good boost... Maybe some else here has done some research on it... Tom G. Found this chart http://www.gnttype.org/general/v6hist.html Look at the bottom, your block number is there, but I think you would have to have pistons for a turbo compression ratio... Tom G.

Head work and valve springs
Published (2009-11-05 14:03:00)
I picked up an set of stock heads and plan to port and polish them myself. I was going to have larger valves and new springs installed. Any recommendation on springs? Its a stock cam I think. The motor was apparently gone through about 5 years ago but I did not get a build sheet when I bought the car so I have no idea if the cam was touched. I don't want to do this work and end up wiping a cam lobe with too stiff a spring....

Dry Sumping an 84 T
Published (2009-11-05 02:04:00)
I've got an 84 T-Type. Among the things I want to do is swap the oil system over to a dry sump. Are there any suggestions to help reduce costs/frustration/time? Thanks.

Dry Sumping an 84 T

I've moved this since the issues would be no different for 84/85 or 86/87/89. Will the car be road raced, or is there some other reason that a dry sump system is of interest? I don't think pans and such are commercially available for dry sumping a production block, so those might be custom pieces. (i.e. $$$)

10w30 is what it says right under the hood... The PF52 is larger than stock; a nice upgrade.

Take a look on our site for porting templates from the PowerSource book. I think we have them ... As far as springs, make sure you measure the installed height after the head work. It can affect the spring rates. Shim as necessary to get the proper installed height. Comp Cams 980s are safe choice. If the cam you choose is a bit more aggressive, the LT1 springs work (see the part #s ...

If it's clacking it's probably one or more of the following: Incorrect length push rods Cheap/wrong lifters Oil gallery plugged (or cam plug missing/leaking/loose on lifter gallery) Incorrect preload on the lifters (i.e. too much collapsing the lifter OR too little allowing things to "bounce") Incorrect valve spring pressures If they are roller rockers, are they clearanced (either by ...
