I have just installed Ubuntu 8.10, 64 bit, and one of the first things I notice is that drawers on the panel behave strangely: First time I open one, it happens instantly, but every time after that it is significantly slower, almost agonisingly so. Why is that? And can I do anything to make it work properly?

I've been using VMware's ESXi lately and have deployed a couple of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server VM's. I'm having some trouble with the mouse and video response; it's slow and choppy in general. I think I've got it tracked to the VMware mouse and display drivers, and the fact that I can't seem to get acceleration enabled. I understand this is more a driver issue probably on the ...

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 and have noticed some different behavior in the save dialogs that adversely affects my workflow. I'm wondering if it is intentional or not. Specifically, I have noticed this with Firefox 3.0.3 running under GNOME 2.24.1 in Ubuntu 8.10. I have observed this same behavior in OpenOffice and other GNOME applications as well, so I assume it is something ...

Hi All! Please excuse me for my bad English :-) I carefully read DejaVu fonts license (http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Lice nse) and "discover" a strange paragraph in it. This paragraph was derived from Bitstream_Vera fonts license as I think. This is this paragraph (from http://www.gnome.org/fonts/#Final_Bitstream_Vera_F onts): "The above copyright and ...

Does there exist or is there plans for a native port of GNOME to Windows? (Not on Cygwin, where GNOME is already included; where it uses X, not the native graphics.) Since there exists versions of GTK+ on Windows, used by Pidgin and other applications, and GNOME uses GTK+, it shouldn't be too hard to port GNOME over, right? I am asking because I read an article from a few years ago saying...

In attempting to speed up my ubuntu 8.04, I modified my /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I set the display color depth to 16 bits per pixel from the previous default value of 24. Now, gridlines appears on movies when I play them in Totem. How do I remove the gridlines without having to revert back to the default color depth of 24 bits per pixel? What must I do? .
