Yes, I am saying that lower payments = better. With $600 /mo getting freed up soon, is it critical? No - not in this case. I do disagree on one point - if you have a $20,000 paid for car and $15,000 in other debt, the value of that car does matter - you could be debt free in a $5,000 car instead and not losing all that interest!

MY personal IRS refund is not waste as I see it. Why would it be---the few $$ of interset I make off it...??...maybe the few $$ of interest I could make if I saved weekly to offset that big refund......but that is small compared to a big refund where "I might not have none if I didn't save that amt. weekly thru the year. again.....it is best that each works what is best for their own personal use of money and how it should be...

i wonder if jerry rafferty knows how he is affecting the sears economy and bottom line. perhaps they should remove that song from their "muzac". you can listen to dave on the radio archives too. I find the radio archives to be better than the tv show. he is more brutally honest on the radio show. fox he pulls his punches. at Dave website there is a button called "listen now"

Snoopy Dance! Debt Free in the OC

Hello all...Here is my story on getting my resistant Hubby on Board with the Baby Steps: My family is finally debt-free except for the house in the OC. It took 22 months to pay off about $75,000. We are pretty much house poor since our mortgage is high and the equity is upside down. It is a HUGE turn around because not only are debt free - but we used to spend $30k more a year than we were making!!! In getting debt-free we also cash flowed...

The DH truck has zero interest. Which sounds good to me. /// Greebo if I understand correctly wants you guys to sell the truck and if you can't get enough $$ from the sale, to pay off what is owed against it, is to borrow extra money to do that on another loan. Hence a smaller amount of money to pay back but with interest now. If the loan is ZERO percent, I would think you are best to leave that loan alone and keep the truck for now....

Correct - you need a fully funded emergency fund in place in case of a major crisis tomorrow. A 401k won't do you nearly as much good in an emergency as cash will.

We just moved FROM MO to another state, and I'm not a bit surprised that you have extra money now by moving TO MO. It's fairly cheap living there. But you do have to weigh your circumstances carefully. Are your jobs secure? Whether the money goes toward mortgage or children, it still boils down to security to maintain the commitment. If I were making these decisions, I would begin to ...

Read his books "The Total Money Makeover" and/or "Financial Peace." They explain the baby steps that people take to become debt free and stay that way.
