Factory heat shields ; side facing engine is best left shiny. This acts as a reflective surface for thermal protection. Understanding the flow of air in the engine bay helps to appreciate the effectiveness of thermal insulation. This flow of air sitting in traffic is damn near zero ! On the highway however it is a different story. For acoustic barrier, two things to consider. 1. mass around firewall in cabin, such as barium filled acoustic...

It may have been a replacement not fitted properly, to start with. The 405 is appreciably different to the Xantia; I just looked. Removing the glass to begin with, might help if John is determined. Also, start on the inboard side. Both 405 and Xantia have a split wedge (or "V") type clip, where once each wedge is forced into its slot of the mirror housing body, it expands and is extremely difficult to compress/slide out....

It can't readily be done. Buy a new paintable cover - they're not too dear. If you want bodge, prise off the old cover, repaint and affix with light smears of Sika 227.
I could probably post a picture of a 405 mirror cover tomorrow sometime - they're pretty similar.

Yeah,
it's running really well. It's still hopeless when the mercury approaches 30degrees though. I reckon it looses a good 40% of it's performance in hot weather.

I have a series 1 Xantia and the bleed screws are as per Haynes. As regards the long funnel, I get over that by parking my car on a steep slope, with the radiator overflow tank higher than the engine. Does the same trick. Once you have coolant coming out of the highest bleed point in the system, you've bled the suystem. A day later (after it has been driven and has stood for a while) I recheck ...

On the BX (at least the BX19TRi) the heater controller is INSIDE one of the blowers in the plenum chamber. This controls the speed of the internal heater fans. If the blowers have been disconnected, its quite possible that the fan is always on as the speed controller has been disconnected.
Try connecting the blowers again. You may find that the fans either don't work at all, or only work at ...

Something like these ... I can't believe I not only found them, but they appear undamaged (the only reason they weren't chucked with the car is someone asked for them, then I never heard from them again).
The car they were removed from had only done 140,000kms from new.

Um,
the regulator bleed screw doens't bleed fluid externally. It just primes the regulator/pump circuit by allowing fluid to pass straight back to the tank.
Hot starting... Could it simply be flooded ??? Next time try pushing your foot flat to the floor while cranking the starter
The height corrector linkages will probably be a little siezed up (though I'm betting the height ...

Anyone will do the trick...... DO NOT leave the car with them, stay there and show where to jack it from... That yes it will collapse on there jack (don't worry about it, just start the car). The indicators do not cancel etc
I would never leave a DS with any road tester.

I am also interested in the correct installation of a Bosch RE55 !
However it is fitted to a Lada Niva........ which appears to have the original alternator, and the original external reg removed and the RE55 in its place.
BUT no matter how I wire the system I can't seem to get charge into the battery. It is possible that the alternator needs ...

If your in the market, it certainly could be worth a look. The fact those rubber strips are still on the bottoms of the doors says a lot. You see the aussie importers fitted these, they are attached with self tapping screws straight through the doorskin, and the rubbers hold water almost indefinately. The fact the doors aren't rotted out leads me to believe the rest of the car could be quite ...

Why bother. None of the best parts of the Cit design have been retained.
Keeping the engine in the Land Rover wold have probably resulted in a better vehicle.

At 110 kmh (figure = L/100km)
5th = 5.27 @ 2700 rpm
6th = 5.09 @ 2100 rpm
Is that a typo? 5th gear should use more than 6th.

Hi Kurt,
Well done for trying to tackle the rust in your DS. I imagine you are talking about removing the windscreen surrounds which run across the top of the screen and a couple of inches down the windscreen pillars. They are clipped into the top of the roof guttering and then held down by the windscreen rubber with a couple of screws in the front door apertures, which you'll see easily when...
