It's because the first generation Zune 30 only had support for .wmv videos.? But later generations have support for .mp4 also.? So, the software will see them both, but will only be able to sync the .wmv to the 30.. Where if you had a 4gb or 80gb player it could sync both types. Hope that helped.

I've had some slight success, but now am as others have posted. Channels are there, and deleted ones are deleted, but they are "incomplete" on the device, with many of the songs grayed out.

Thanks for the link James. ?I checked there earlier and I'm either blind or that message wasn't up at the time. ?Now I at least know I can check there to see if they've resolved the problem.

Another possibility is to login to Zune social and when it tells you to update, just click cancel until the message goes away. Then it usually works to let me go ahead and update my Zune manually. I don't auto sync anything though, so if you do, that might screw things up.? So far it's worked for me a few times, but the message still ALWAYS pops up now and it makes no sense. Maybe it's a legacy issue with the older models and...

Try plugging in the device turning it on and doing a hard restart by holding the back button and up on the directional pad, while you have the software open.? My zune is frequently not recognized by my comp and this seems to work for my zune 30.
