> I think it was the first glyph I drew. Ah. That reinforces the dumping suggestion. :-( IIRC, according to Carter a text face starts with an “n” (meaning: something bland). > I thought I’d made it pretty loose already! Have you printed it? Because a text face always seems too loose when viewed large on-screen. BTW, I personally like the “J”. hhp

Some update - ’g’ is redrawn, first versions of accents and fractions added. I think the sloped bar of fractions has too much weight - is it?

/q/ looks much better. I don’t think the thickness you’ve added along the bottom of /g/ looks good.

Thanks, Danny- And merry Christmas. I really started this font from that ’cardinal’ -fleuron, but now (after a hefty Jule meal) I am seriously thinking of italics, and weights as well…

Right, that sample is 10/13pt and to me the spacing when printed looks generous. Need to develop my eye a bit it seems :) I’ll set a sample in smaller sizes and take it from there.

“I meant that it wasn’t as condensed as many of the trendy text faces” Ahh. Yes. I like the boxy/not-so-narrow proportions. Maybe they’re part, though, of what makes this seem to target smaller point sizes than you wanted? Not sure. “I did try flaring the T and it looked rubbish.” It’s probably good. It was more of a gut reaction on my part upon comparing with...

It’s not a bad idea per se, but I think the poor K feel a little lonely, being the only one... ;-)

Thanks. Good calls on the “æ” and “d.” Didn’t even see that. Your accent comments got me thinking about punctuation and diacritics altogether. I made some adjustments to get them more “in line” with the warmth that you pointed out. (rounding and tapering...new ones in black) Those extras are so open to interpretation, yet at the same time bound by some strict guidelines....

First draft of Caslon(esque)...

I like the face, although it doesn’t remind me too much of Caslon. The lower case is closer to Garamond... and the upper case isn’t even old style!

NICE I like the wobbly “ g “ it is like it is almost falling sidewides... I like that. wild! however if you ask me (but you won’t) then I think the “ r ” is a little to fat/bold up to the right. how about making it a little slimmer like the top left of the “ a “

Some handsome stuff going on here, and the concept is interesting. Hairlines this fine will only work at a larger size than what appears in your specimen, I think. Accent shapes are too strange. /f/ needs more weight in the hood: “affliction” looks like “attliction.” /t/ needs more above the crossbar too. /g/ looks very horizontal compared to the other letters. Should humps branching from ...

Thanks for your suggestion. Is there a list somewhere on the web, where I can see how the glyphs looked like, and what they meant? It would not be a big problem to include them as a opentype stylistic set. Sebastian

I think A is the best. The overlap of the letters creates a more striking visual effect than the other two.

Hi, Thomas- If this is your first attempt, my hat off to you; it has a very nice feel to it, especially considering your attempt to create a font for small size use. More narrow design would work against that goal. I did notice some of the mistakes I made with my first fonts: ’m’ is a bit wide, top of ’a’ comes a bit too far to the left (overall width is good), your ’u’ is a bit too wide (...
