I’d just scale down their “friend” design and show them that it won’t work at small sizes, doesn’t work without the fade/gradient, etc. As far as your concepts, your type choices feel too friendly to me, solid and secure has me wanting a meaty, bold typeface. I understand you may want something somewhat friendly if you’re going after a female audience but it can’t be too...

Yup, precisely what I was thinking in the second version of your new attempts. Def. reduce the mark’s size as you said. I don’t see a ribbon & bow myself. But if it looks a little girly, well, isn’t that a good thing? Perhaps it is a little obscure, but who hasn’t seen an obscure mark on a logotype before? And for that matter, I’ve seen many that look nice but def. don’t...

I would try with something a little more angular for the type, something that recalls the rounded corners of the camera shape and that maybe could help harmonising the “yg” pair.

Round and pointed parts need to go “over the limit”, otherwise they look like they’re not reaching the limit; see how the “V” seems to be sitting higher than the rest. The “U” needs overshoot too, just not as much. The necessity for this decreases with size, but it’s always there. If there’s a good reason not to have overshoots, what you’d have...

I’m not into the larger rounded corners either, it becomes antithetic to the rest of the letters as you wrote but it solved a problem with the L U combo, well almost but it does not work. I will go to work on the spacing and L and post the results here. Do you have any comments on the thoughts behind the logo design? Does it signal fashion? If so, where in the segment would you place it? Thank you for your thoughts!

yeah, good point. Gonna do some other concepts as well, client liked the direction of the two on the left. Theatre masks are a little too common though. Updates to come...

Thank you everyone for your astute comments. For more insight into the project take a look at this image of the actual product. It is really not a very exciting object...more something you would find on a rack at Home Depot. The client also was concerned with the word “warden” conjuring up images of unfriendly and restrictive officials. They definitely wanted to soften the blow of the harsh sounding title with a softer,...

I’m working on the identity for a new fashion label focused on maternity clothing and I would very much like to hear your thoughts on the logotype. Having big problems with the L and U combo.
Here are my thoughts behind the design.

You’re client’s not a designer, and I imagine when he looks at the other guy’s image, he sees coolness, which is how he feels about his product. When he looks at your design in comparison, he sees lameness. At this point, he’s not thinking about the finer points of what makes a good logo; he obviously hasn’t considered what the other guy’s image will look like when scaled down to one inch ...

Typically, in typography, horizontal forms are less high than the vertical forms are large. Have a look at the horizontal part at the top of the R and try to emulate that height. That is one of the issues.
Secondly, if you close a V, you typically have to enlarge it at the top to give it the same optical weight as the other letters. Check the difference in width between V and A to understand ...

The logo looks like your designer didn’t do enough research. Was the spider his or your idea? Either way, I think it’s not an idea well thought-through.

I think the red should be a similar size & weight to the black. What is the reason for the handwritten look of that letter?

Well, first of all, it’s nice to see you trying to get out of the box.
But I believe there are many problems with this card.
1. Why is the varnish spilled? In my lecture of it, with the stains on the other side, it gives a clumsy feel to the card. Almost like “I won’t let her paint my nails, because she is incapable of doing it right!”.
2. The stains are all the same one, only ...

The overall effect is a bit messy.
The letters don’t get along well.
“d” and “p” are too heavy/wide, the “s”s are too thin, the “e”s too round, “a” and “k” have a too thick vertical stroke.
Given the subject, I think you could try a more monospaced kind of feeling.
