Is it wise to upgrade valve...

QUOTE (JFUSION @ Dec 24 2009, 02:18 PM) I don't buy the argument that the stock retainers are weak, we've seen them crack where people abused the engine primarily on over-revs. My personal opinion is that an S2000 that has not been abused or mis-shifted can run indefinitely on stock retainers. It's always a good idea to inspect them for cracks and sunken valves, if there aren't any visible signs then save the money. Some...

Coolant, not really long-life?

the best way is to test it's acidity with a litmus type tester, if it reads good keep using it IMO. I think 10 years is stil the maxium period I would run it, I changed mine at 7 years though the mileage was far under the mileage spec. On the other hand I wouldn't leave your sparkplugs in for the recommended spec, I think Honda went a bit overboard with that one. My plugs were totally done at 55,000 miles, the gaps were really high...

my ap1 build has no spark

What valve cover did you use? IIRC the 04+ (or 06+?) has different cam angle sensors (only one) that will not work with the AP1 ECU. Otherwise... it would have to be a wiring issue unless you didn't put the cam angle sensor plates on the cams.

L rear shock blown

The rears are easier to swap out than the fronts. I did them in my garage last Winter. Seriously, there are a lot of autocrossers in your region. It's such not a big deal. I have two sets of shocks sitting in my garage and I'll bet people around you have them too.

Oil temps on the track can get pretty high. I would not track it with a 20 weight and no oil cooler. http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=705376&st=0

Ah SH**! My S2000 almost killed...
Published (2009-12-23 12:23:00)
I've done plenty of pad and rotor installs, sway bar replacements, other wrenching. If it weren't so cold, as in spring/summer time, I'd probably be more willing to tackle this myself. But I think with the holidays near, I'm just too lazy. Haha This post has been edited by masksqueeze on Dec 23 2009, 12:24 PM

http://vimeo.com/8310642 Theres a video that mark355 posted in another thread. Mine sounds the exact same except that mine is more intermittent than this. The solution in the other thread seemed to be to change to mobile 1. I just changed oil about 1k miles ago and im using mobile 1. thanks for the tips though.

lol it's coolant temp, not oil temp. You didn't mess anything up by hitting the cold limiter. The reason the cold limiter is there is to prevent you from messing anything up. Maybe your engine needs a valve adjustment. Have the retainers inspected. AP1 retainers have been known to crack over time/abuse. You can replace them with AP2 retainers or aftermarket ones. Your timing chain tensioner may also be worn. I really doubt it's...

Really? I thought anything above 200 psi was good considering the variance of readings between different gauges?

it could be a wheel bearing. does it make the sound on left or right turns as well? warbling doesn't describe it specifically.

You don't want to upgrade to an aftermarket suspension? If you're staying stock I would replace both rear shocks, since the other one has some miles on it already.

I had a similar issue with my integra... my alt was fine and so was my battery... I found that the fuse underneath my steering wheel was blown. I ran over water with my itr and i guess it blew a fuse that way because it happened on the drive home from school. I'd check the fuses first and then try to do something else... i hope its just the fuse like it was for me... haha...

I have the MB Quart 160 in my S2000. All you need are 1/2" Spacers for the big speakers in the doors. I have placed the Tweeters in the uper part of my door panel. MB Quart is a very good speaker system! Love it....

So I figured out when I first got my s2k, that the oil temp needs to have 3 bars before the engine will go into vtec (this is somewhat correct I assume) I thought something terrible was wrong with my car the first time this happened to me. I went to pull out of my driveway and as soon as my rpm's hit vtec range, it was like my engine hit a brick wall and my car just jerked back real hard. ...

I had an '02 AP1 for 4 years, and put 75K miles on it using 5W-30 Mobil 1. It was consistently strong at club dyno days, and I never had any issues with wear, so I think 5W-30 was a good choice for it. I traded that S2000 in on an '06 Lexus IS350, which was supposed to use 5W-30. However, Lexus issued a technical bulliten stating that 5W-20 was preferred, so I started using that. I sent in ...

You don't need to take the head off, but you will need a compressor to pressurize the combustion chamber and keep the valves from dropping.

Im gonna vote Valve Adjustment and possible injectors. Doesnt sound to me like anything serious, and it doesnt have that obvious TCT card in the bike spoke sound.

Newer euro 2.0's use the newer retainers so no problem, I'm assuming.
